A little bite won't hurt once in a while, but don't feed it often, and don't feed it a lot.

Only as an occassional treat. Remember that tuna has mercury in it, and if its not good for us, then its not good for them, especially because they are so much smaller. Tuna wouldn't be part of a domestic cat's diet in the wild...a tuna is a deeper sea fish, and they can be huge (up to 150 pounds), so your cat definitely doesn't need it. But it is okay as a treat.

I give mine a little every so often but not very. That, and he loved to eat chicken. He will go after every kind of food I eat because he wants to examine it, smell it and play with it but chicken, turkey, and tuna are all he'll actually eat. I had chinese food last night and I notice him throwing a fit on the table and I saw he had the little container the rice came in stuck on his head and he was going so crazy trying to get it off that he slipped off the table, taking the mouse of my work PC with him. At least he got the rice container off his head.
I didn't know that mercury was in tuna, but saw some of the other replies and now that I know that I won't give him anymore. Other than that he gets really spoiled if I give him anything other than his cat food and he won't eat it - just beg for more of the other stuff. He'll get a really bad attitude toward me for a day or two after that so I've decided not to give him any more people food. I just want to find him a good cat food that he will like. Someone suggested Eagle Pack to me but I can't find any place close enough to me that sells it so if I want it I will have to place an order on line and have it shipped here.

Yes, it's fine. Just don't do it in excess b/c of the mercury content in tuna. Only give a cat tuna once in a while. You can also give your cat raw slices of meat and such, they loooove that. If you check out a book on holistic remedies for cats, I have one but i can't remember the title right now, they give you a whole chapter on what your cat should and shouldn't eat plus tons of other tips that are really helpful, like how to brush your cat's teeth.

Absolutely not! Forget about the mercury content for a second; tuna can give your cat bladder stones, which can be deadly and very costly to have removed, not to mention excrutiatingly painful for your cat. If you have a male cat, bladder stones can kill him in 24 hours. Stick to a regular diet of cat food, with only occasional treats. If your are looking for a healthy treat, talk to your vet; there are many vet-approved cat treats on the market today.

No. In addition to the danger that mercury poses, cats should not be eating any food that humans do. They will get overweight, and their arteries could get clogged. Most cats are fine with half a cup of cat food a day. Even though they will constantly beg for food, ignore them. You'd rather them alive than them having a few minutes of pleasure. If they drive you nuts every time you open a can of tuna, give them the liquid that the tuna is stored in. it's basically water with the flavor of tuna in it, and that's ok for them. my cats love it!

Do you have any idea what goes into cat food? Canned cat food is the stuff left over after processing the edible food. Thats kind of like asking whether a shot of Crown Royal will hurt a guy that drinks Night Train.

I am pretty sure that it will not harm you cat unless that is like the only thing that you are feeding him. Everyone has a different opinion about what to and what not to feed their animals. Consider researching on the internet or asking your local vet.

No! It is defiitely not okay to feed your can canned tuna. I just saw something on the news about it. It contains something that is very bad for your cat. (Sorry I can't remember what it is!)
Good luck

contrary to what my cats believe - not as a sole diet - cooked meat has no taurine which cats need or they'll go blind (that's why cats can't live on dry dog food, but dogs can live on dry cat food). All processed cat foods have taurine added back in after cooking stage. Like people, don't eat it too often because of mercury danger. As treat? Oh, yeah, trust me they'll love you for it.
