My coworker is going to be a daddy soon, and all the women are going to throw him a baby shower right behind me in the common area of my department. I really want to just go hide, is this normal?

Why do you want to hide? It's common for men to be involved in baby showers nowadays. If it's just for him, it's probably more of a "hey congratulations!" type of thing than an actual "shower" since it is taking place at work and not a big deal with renting of a hall and everything.
My husband was present at our baby shower for the entire thing. I think it's nice to include the husband in on things. For weddings and babies, the woman seem to get ALL of the attention. I think it's only right to give the man some attention too. He did have a little something to do with it as well, obviously.
I would probably give a little congratulations to him. If you're uncomfortable about attending, stay in your office or what have you and maybe when it's just the two of you, give him his congratulations.

Question? Why do you want to hide? Did you and him date at one point? Do you want a baby? You question is kind of incomplete

I can understand...but you really shouldnt feel embarrassed, this is a happy time in your co-worker's life and people and going to want to celebrate it.......just be happy for him and console yourself with the fact that its not your babyshower !

Why not support him in the new stage in his life and go, no one says you have to bring a gift, but a nice "Hey Congrats!" might be nice.
