slips and petticoats in the USA?

getting interesting answers on why British girls have ceased wearing any type of underskirt which we "older" women would never do, especially in a straight skirt, for the sake of morality - and yes they do creep up and get stuck in your panties, but ......? The USA always seems a much more moral country than ours (UK), so tell me American girls, have slips - do you call them that -petticoats/seprate underskirts - also vanished from girls wardrobes in temperate zones stateside? Or do your mothers teach you to wear proper underthings>

It's a modesty issue with me.

I live in Texas and I wear slips because most of my dresses are very light weight material and I don't like it when my dress turns transparent when I enter a building.

I also wear slips if I am wearing any type of stockings/hose... helps cut down on static and makes the skirt fall better.

I don't wear slips under denim skirts.

I don't wear them. Not wearing slips doesn't make you immoral. I have plenty of morals. I'm 17 years old and I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't lie, I'm a virgin, and my mom always knows where I am. I don't wear a slip for the same reason a lot of girls don't. They're just too uncomfortable. Don't you remember the very public picture Diana Spencer before she became the Princess of Wales? Are you saying that she was also immoral?

This is funny... I was just thinking the other day that I don't even OWN a slip anymore. I know that I wore them when I was a teenager with dresses and such. But most of my skirts now are lined and don't really need one. I don't think women in America wear them much either... heck, it's cool to show your underwear now! I know - my grandmother would roll over in her grave as well!

I wear slips and petticoats, garters (suspenders) and stockings whenever I wear skirts and dresses. Makes me feel very feminine, sexy, so like a woman, especially in my oh, so male-dominiated industry.

I know what I am wearing underneath my outwardly geek looking clothing...A frilly, baby blue satin camisole, with a matching tap pant bordered with scolloped ecru lace, and an ecru pair of garters that connect sheer nylon stockings to my thighs ...

No wonder why the men in my department have always looked at me in a certain way...and I thought it was my stunning wit or business acumen that got their attention!

I'm Aussie and although it's too hot there for petticoats, I always have a full slip and half slip, mainly to stop my clothes from clinging. I am 32 but have done this since I was young.

I only wear a slip if you can see my underwear because the skirt is somewhat shear...same with a camisol under a shirt. I really dont like wearing slips i find them uncomfortable, so if you cant see through the skirt and i dont have a panty line (thank god for thongs) than i dont wear one...it drives my mom crazy though.

My mother always wears a slip. Some skirts come with a built in slip, I don't wear one unless the skirt is see through or if it is clingy, especially in summer when it is hot.

I wear dresses and skirts all the time -- never pants. Consequently, I have considerable experience wearing slips amd half-slips. While "petticoat" is part of my vocabulary, I prefer the termn "slip".
