could man be living today,
if the earth and clay had not become the source of life for him?

Thus, the basis of the argument is :-

Man could not be living today if the earth and clay had not become the source of life for him.
And if it is possible today to create life in it, as your own existence is a clear and definite pointer to this possibility, WHY should it be IMPOSSIBLE to bring about your re-creation from the SAME EARTH TOMMORW?

Matter is needed for life to show up but even more important is a place in an energy gradient. Earth is positioned on the energy slope from the Sun to the cosmos. It is the differential between energy levels that decide if life can be. Matter is the mechanism.
Animals live on the difference in energy between food in and crap out. This is why the laws of thermodynamics caused so much concern when they were stated. Life is an entropy engine.
