I have this two year old chihuahua that is scared of toys... I bought a loofa dog (those long creepy dogs with a huge smile) and he freaks out and runs away. I know why he is afraid - my sister was playing with him one day and made the toy (it was a stuffed dog with bulging eyes) attack him. She made growling noises and made it chase after him. Now I can't get him to play with anything and it breaks my heart since he used to adore them. Now the only toys I have had with him are stuffed animals (mostly stuffed dogs) and haven't tried any other toy because they are all ugly. haha Like he cares. But anyway, was wondering if someone had some sort of technique that works.

If the dog doesn't enjoy it they aren't "toys" to him, they are scary anxiety creating objects. Quit giving him toys, put down small chew bones or dog biscuits or maybe a tiny little squeaky toy. Remember your dog is a very small breed of dog and they don't need a big toy it can be intimidating so get small toys.

Shame on sister. Give it time. It was not a traumatic experience that should linger with him. Put the "scairy" loofa dog away for now. Leave his other toys for him where he can play with if wants. May take a little while for him to be interested again. Try holding him and playing with him and a toy. Avoid the actions of your sister for sure!

Most small dogs will take their toys into the bed area to sleep with. Make a routine of joining him and his toys down on the floor and playing there, on his level. May take awhile but he should get over the "scare".

you need to show you fur child that there is nothing to be afraid of.Alot of chihuahuas are prone to be slightly neurotic(mental cases). Even the ones I have are like this. I have never had a problem with toys but a leash was a different story. All I had to do was show mine that there was nothing to be afraid of. And in the future I would warn your sister that this way is not appropriate to play with your dog.

You just need to get him to be happy around his toys again. Place them all on the lfoor and hide amongst them some tasty treats, like small bits of sausage, and play a game of hunt the treat amongst his toys. Patience and calm is required and gradually he'll start to associate the toys with tasty treats and gradually over come his fear. Don't let your sister growl at him again!!

Try one of those rope toys. All dogs love those things. And they are good for cleaning their teeth when they chew on them.
