When entering Canada, you have three basic visa options.

TOURIST VISA: Enables you to 'see the sights', but not study OR work.
STUDENT VISA: Enables you to study and visit, but not work.
WORK VISA: Enables you to work and visit; MAY enable you to study as well.

To obtain a work visa, you need to have a letter from a prospective employer stating the basic agreement of your employment. You must also have a valid passport and prove that you meet the criteria for the job (including degrees, work experience, etc).

It is illegal to solicit job offers while on a tourist or student class visa, by the way.

And before you ask - it isn't any better in the US ... their visa breakdowns and requirements are pretty much the same.

Your situation is universal - it happens anywhere and everywhere.

I'm curious..........When you decided to come to Canada, were you already thinking that you'd want to work there? If Yes, did you do some initial research on legality issues and job opportunities?

Or, is the need to work just an unfortunate consequence of resources running low? You're there as a tourist...maybe you've done enough touring...maybe it's time to go back home. You do have a return ticket, right?

Yes, there are ways for you to stay in Canada...just as there are ways for people (in your situation) to stay in the USA...but let's not go there, okay?

My best advice: Go home before your visa expires. Re-think what you really want to do. Do you still want to work outside UK? If Yes, do some research. Plan ahead before you go anywhere.

Good Luck.....and I do mean that with all sincerity.

Have you thought about working in Ireland, instead? I hear the economy is heating up there. My friend went to work there last week.

If you're seeking work in Canada, it depends on what you want to get into and where you are seeking work. The westermost provinces, Alberta and British Columbia are facing worker shortages so it might be easier to find a job there.

Don't know what else to say.
