Cars can be VERY different in qualifying trim than they are in race trim. Last weekend, the 24 team made a ton of changes to the car on Saturday. They actually threw everything out the window and put Jimmie Johnson's set up on the 24 and ran no practice laps. So, they had no idea what it was going to do. And, Jimmie likes a VERY loose race car, so Jeff was probably uncomfortable driving it at first. Plus, Kasey Kahne is awesome, so he would have taken the lead no matter who was on the pole.

Ok.. #1.. It's pole** position**

And, As proven in the past... Just because you start up-front doesn't mean you will stay up-front. The setups on these cars are so freaking technical, It's amazing. They have different setups they run in the car, For Example.. During practice and happy hour most teams will run a Qualifying setup (to ensure a decent starting spot) and a Race setup which is used to build consistency, and speed over longer runs. If the cars went out on the track to race the first 30-50 laps on their Qual. Setup.. Speed would drop off FAST, More wrecks because the cars are setup so loose, and It'd make for even crappier racing. And, You must not watch much NASCAR.. Because it's not that rare that the guy starting Pole, or even Top-5 drops back 20 place in the first 10 laps. Dont knock it, until you get your butt out there a do it kid. It's so easy for you to hide behind your computer and say how Jeff Gordon sucks... I mean you're absolutely right! A guy like him (4-Time Cup Champion, 75 Career Cup wins, 214 Top-5 Cup finishes, and 289 Top-10 finishes) is just a loser! He sucks more than ANY other driver out there... lol I just can't wait to see the day that Gordon gets the respect he deserves. And before all you idiots start opening your mouths... What I mean is I dont care if you boo JG, or even hate JG.. But to say he Sucks? and that he's a Loser? Get a grip... Most of you need to shut your mouths and don't open them again until your damn driver has won multiple CUP championships.. This means YOU JR FANS!

It depends on how the car is setup. A lot of teams focus more on the car for the actual race than for the qualifying round while some teams focus on the qualifying trim than the actual race.

With Jeff last week, his team may have focued more on his qualifying effort than the race. The thing is however, is that even though he won the pole and wound up in the back for part of his race...Jeff's team wound up making the car better throughout the race.

Hay there nut face, if i am not mistaken, which i am not he fell back to third on the first lab. Oh yea dip stick he finished second. Wow you are an ediot. I bet you are some stupid *** lemming Jr. fan. What you should ask is why so many people like a racer who has never done a thing other than be born ito his family and race a redneck car.

P.S. Jeff Gordon, who you should warship the privilaged time you are alive to get to see the greatest nascar driver EVER! is only in third place in the points.

why dont you find another sport to demise because you and your pathetic kind are unwanted!

Gordon is god!

Depends on the cars set up. If it's not right for racing you lose spots until they can get the set up right. I most important thing is where you are on the last lap because you have a lot of laps to get back up front and stay there. Plus you have to have great pit stops because they can get you in the lead fast.

Yes you can fall behind on the first lap. Boris Said won the poll at the Pepsi 400 last year and got punted to the back because his set up was strickly for qualifying.

lots of little things can go wrong, from missing a gear to simply spinning the tires. these cars are so amazingly touchy that you pretty much have to be perfect.

i don't like jeff gordon either, but i still realize that he doesn't suck. only the two best nascar drivers in history (earnhardt and petty) have more championships than him

because the driver may not have a good start or the car may not have enough heat or pressure in the tires to take off,and sometimes weather changes from qualifying to raceday which can mess up the setup of the car

He keeps having car problems. The alternator went out last time. Go figure. With all of the money they spend on teams and equipment, you would think the mechanics would have this figured out by now.
