My wife tans, and right after getting tattoos. (We are avid collectors) Her tanning salon has a stick, sort of like Chapstick, that is a 34 SPF sunblock. Just put it where you need it. Good luck.

I wouldn't recommend going tanning right away. I was told the first year is the most critical time period to keep it out of the sun, or tanning bed. You could probably use the towel for now, and after it has healed, make sure you cover it. I always use this amazing sunblock that was made for the face and lips. It looks like a fat tube of chapstick. The lady that worked at the tanning bed told me about it when I was worried about a new tattoo, and let me try it first, and then I bought it. I have 3 tattoos, and none of them have faded at all due to sun or tanning beds.

You can always contact your artist and ask if your not sure. But I have some and so does my hubby and I do know your not supposed to tan at all or sit directly in the sun, it can cause fading and peeling, for like 30 days. I think!! I cant remember the exact time line. I would call any tattoo parlor in the phone book and just ask.

I live in the Caribbean for 8 years already,I'm a dive instructor and 3 big tattoos, when I got my 2nd and 3rd Tatto,I was diving the next day already, just put a lot of vaseline on it,and foil around it.And by the way.I never put any cream or what so ever on my tattoos, when walking around or sitting in the sun,and they still look beautifull!!

your supposed to avoid the tanning beds and sun with your tattoo. after it is completely healed. in about 2 weeks it would be safe to go. i would recommend buying a high spf sunblock to put just over that tattoo. that would help block out the uva and uvb rays from the tanning bed. that will help your skin not absorb them as easily or change the pigment of the skin that tattoo is on. and just so you know the rays of the tanning bed penetrate clothing. so it can still fade with just a towel.

When I got mine, the artist said if I was going to get in the tanning bed I should put a layer of vaseline on it. I didn't do it & my tattoo didn't fade. You could try this, though.

never. my sister got tattoos and she went tanning now the insides are normal skin color. But if u still want to i would wait a month. covering it will not completely protect it, uv rays will still get through and its worse than natural sun exposer. once u start, i recomend putting sunscreen on it or something to protect it.

wait at least a month. And then use sunblock or really high factor sun screen on it also put a towel or something else to cover it. Tats fade really easily and it'll look **** (trust me). Then you will need it re inked wheich will hurt even more!

This worst thing that would happen is you'll have to get a tuch up... and more than likely you'll have to get one in a few years anyways... it wont killl you but remember if its a color tattoo that color fades quicker in the sun...
oh and tattoos do fade with time.. no matter how much you protect them.
