It's the small area all the way west on the boundary of Greenwich Village and Chelsea - Little West 12th Street to 15th Street from Ninth Avenue past 11th Avenue. You'll recognize it by all the ramps where they load the trucks. It's a very lively area at night.

Anchoring the southern end of the High Line and home to both long established wholesale meatpackers and the latest trendsetting shops, clubs and restaurants—the Meatpacking District is a neighborhood in transition.

The Meatpacking District is experiencing an evolution from industrial to cutting-edge trendy.

Originally known as Gansevoort Market, the area just south of West 14th Street and from Hudson Street to the Hudson River was once home to 250 slaughterhouses and meatpacking plants.
