internet explorer is actually a good browser but not in xp,this is because it was actually designed for windows vista, but like windows defender it was given as a free download to all genuine xp users
if you want to remove it then simply go to control panel>add/remove programs>and highlight the internet explorer 7 entry and then click remove, this will run the internet explorer 7 uninstall wizard, this will remove all of i.e7 from your p.c and will return you to the previous internet explorer 6
however when you upgrade to windows vista dont think internet explorer 7 will be the same, its much more stable in vista as it was designed for it
there are other alternative browsers other than internet explorer,i use a excellent browser called "ace explorer",its based on the internet explorer code but is much faster than i.e,you can download it from http://www.aceexplorer.com/
another good browser is netscape8 avalible from http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/,this has a added security interface included in the browser with spyware protection ect
other browsers avalible are mozzila firefox(http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/) and opera(http://www.opera.com/download/) both which are brilliant browsers
good luck

I did this once - but reverted back to IE7 as it is better security.
Anyway, go to `add/remove` remove IE7 and IE6 will replace automatically (It did on my PC)
Why do you want to get rid of IE7? it`s better security for your PC.
Firefox! that`s the pits....
