Have any of you experienced this? If so, does it ever go away? I've read parts of the book from St. John of The Cross and it even tells if I'm not mistaken you're filled with lots of impure thoughts

The term 'dark night of the soul' can be ANY 'spiritual crisis' that makes you 'wonder' about the 'goodness of God' and the 'evil of Satan' ... you may have 'impure thoughts' but those are not necessarily 'obscene' thoughts ... and usually when one is having a 'dark night of the soul' they can find out where their faith is strongest, and where their faith is weakest, and if they are 'truly faithful' when most in doubt, sometimes a 'miracle' happens to help them on the 'next part of their journey' through faith.

I have experienced it more than once. It can last for a long time. And yes, it goes away. Why God allows it to happen to us? I don't know. Perhaps for our humility. All I know is, I wouldn't be who I am today if I had not experienced those things. And I don't think I would be better or more useful to my fellow man if I had never experienced it.
You need to keep seeking God through the experience. As a famous British politician said, "Never give up. Never, never, never give up!"

I think that most serious seekers in religious/spiritual matters will at one time or another encounter a crisis of faith. After a time the crisis will be resolved in some way.

And Yes, I have experienced it in the past. It helped me find my current path.....
