Im not sure if Im asking in the right section but here it goes.I moved to a small town in Texas in July 2006.2 months after being here I recieved a letter from the water company saying that there is high levels of chlorine in the water and they have been trying to corrrect this problem for a few years. It said that if you have cancer or any organ problems then you should talk to your doctor about drinking the water other wise it is safe to drink.I now have dry skin(never had it before). The release vaulve on the hot water tank had white build up on it causing the vaulve to stick open(was just brought in July)The garden hose has white build up stuff on it(bought it a few months ago).I planted all my garden seeds in pots and have then sitting on the porch(planted them 8 days ago). The pots now have white build up stuff on them and so does the porch from where I water the pots. What is this? Is it harmful? I have 6 children and alot of pets I am now concern about.

There is alot of days where the water is so cloudy that it looks like half milk and water mixed together.Letting the water sit in a cup will not clear it up.For some reason almost every Monday and Tuesday the water gets like this.

Now, you got chlorine, yeah, make some calls to the city. I don't have too much to say, and wasn't going to post here, except for when I read Maven's post, and read who he cited as his source. Do Not, and I mean Do Not trust his source. It's absolute Bullshit. Kevin Trudeau is a huge fraud. he's been under investigation so many times, and was a twice convicted felon by age 30.

tap water is full of all sorts of nasty chemicals and crap. The white powdery stuff is likely lime (not the fruit kind, but the ash) There is boatloads of chemicals in it. I am so sensitive to the chlorine that I get dizzy just taking a shower. If you use bottled water, make sure to use spring or steam distilled. Bottled water labeled "pure" or "enhanced" is nothing more than tap water with chlorine. Ask your water department to provide you with a copy of their last analysis. Unfortunately, you do need to worry about your children and pets. Tap water is nasty. Make sure your pets cannot access water, from the toilet or elsewhere. I rent a water dispenser for about 12 dollars a month, and have water delivered. If you can afford it, a whole house filter is nice, although I would still not DRINK the water I remember when I got my first betta fish, it said chlorinated water would kill it. If it will do that, to a pretty hardy fish, I cant help but wonder what its doing to us. Good luck

Tap water is full of chemicals and disinfectants. Though the levels may be negligible from use of a few times, tap water can contain extremely harmful substances such as lead, which accumulates in your body (which means the same amount will stick with you until death) and may cause permanent brain damage. I'm not trying to discourage you into thinking that straight tap water is very bad, it's just that there are better sources of water. Try finding a sink attachment that filters tap water. I have one in my coffee machine, and it no longer has that distinctly horrible tap water taste.

Chlorine is bleach (Clorox). Cities use it to purify the water when it's pumped in to the treatment plant for processing/purification. That's why your skin is dry, and that's what the white buildup is everywhere. If I were you, number one, I'd start buying bottled water to drink. Cooking with this water and showering/brushing your teeth won't hurt you, but don't drink any more tap water than you have to.

Hello.
You answered your own question, you have chlorine in your water. Too much isn't so harmful, but excess of anything is harmful. Don't use or drink tap water unless boiled, or just do away with it completely. If you are getting dry skin, yes definitely something to worry about. If signs are showing externally, you can be assured something inside is going wrong. Most tap water in America is poison. The water is mixed with so many chemicals. Some mixture of chemicals are in fact well if applied properly in certain portions of each other, not too much though, but it's not always portions but also what mixtures. Some chemicals are not to be mixed. Pure water is the best. Drink distilled or natural spring water, not tap. Use tap water only to mop. Here is a link on how water is affected by chemicals and thoughts, yes THOUGHTS:

Contact your county or the organization that you receive the letter from. Let them know your concerns and issues and they can help explain what is going on. My philosophy "If all else fails, go to the source."

Fairly easy solution if it concerns you....a whole house water filtration system will take out alot of it. Not too expensive at Lowes and should not cost alot to have someone install it.
