Im researching neighborhoods in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. Can anyone give me their opinions on the following areas. I keep seeing listings for studios and 1 bedrooms from $800-$1050. I understand that is very low and that's why Im basically asking what's the catch? Im interested to know what you all think about these areas in terms of safety and locality. (Locality for me means, how far/accessible are they from West Hollywood).

-Glendale
-Downtown Los Angeles
-Korea Town
-Mid Wilshire
-Los Feliz
-San Fernando Valley
-Burbank
-North Hollywood
-Studio City

Thanks!

If you have to commute to West Hollywood, consider these areas....

Mid Wilshire
Miracle Mile
Beverly/Fairfax

They are good places to get your feet wet in L.A. You'll be central to most things too.

a little bit further, but hip places to live...
Los Feliz
Silverlake

you should avoid the San Fernando Valley altogether.. the drive over the hill totally sucks. (so forget Glendale/Burbank/North Hollywood/Studio City) and the valley, in general, is pretty charmless.

There is one huge consideration you must take into account if you are commuting to West Hollywood: the 101/405 interchange. The busiest in the country if not the world and designed by the Great Minds at CalTrans to be little more than a glorified goat path.

Any direction will be paid, but worse is anywhere east of the 405 (i.e. Burbank/Glendale) to the southbound 405. It's absolutely horrible anytime of the day or night.

You want to do anything within reason to reduce your commute time. So look close to where you are working. The above list is fine with the exception of some parts of the valley and downtown. You can tell by looking if the neighborhood is for you.

Good safe places to live: Glendale, Los Feliz, Burbank, San Fernando Valley.

Accessability can vary greatly depending on time of travel and whether or not there is an accident. Do some mapquest searches and compare differences. Keep in mind these will be based on no traffic.

I think it's all a cesspool. Why do you ask?
