every 6 weeks when you get your hair cut. you don't want to do it more than that cuz it'll dry and fall out.

It is just like surgery almost you should wait at least a week before doing anything to your hair and at least 6 weeks after to do anything else including hair cuts...

It depends,
If your hair is already chemically treated wait at least 4 weeks after your last chemical treatment.
I would recommend weekly upkeep by a professional
Do not experement with coloring your hair at home, it WILL end in a desaster.
