Will that stop you from driving to work?
Can you live without technology?
Will that put more workers back in the field to replace tractors?

Do you think we can possibly last longer than another 5 or 6 years of guzzling oil & trees at this rate?

Calm down, Humble Simple Man. People have been predicting we were going to run out of oil "in about 4 more years" for the past 30 years. President James Carter (Jimmy) was famous for wearing a sweater in the White House and grimly looking into the TV camera stating our impending doom from no more oil.

The truth of the matter is that the known oil reserves are simply a function of price: The higher the price the more oil is available. This isn't some conspiracy by BIG OIL. It is simply the way economics works. At $80 per barrel the reserves are large enough to cover us for another 200 or so years.

To put this in perspective for you 200 years ago Lewis & Clark were mapping the West.

U don't understand that the earth has some built in automatic recycle . The plants recycle our air and remove the CO2. It goes like this,The plants take in the CO2 and hold on to the C and return the O2. Now to the C side of the recycle, The leaves fall off the plants and wash down the river to the delta where it deteriorates to gas ,oil ,and after a long time to coal. The earth about 4 million years ago was very hot and there was no trace of fossil fuels. All the fossil fuels was created as above. It means that we will never run out of fossil fuels.

There is still plenty of oil, or hydrocarbons more specifically, to be produced from the earth.

The biggest obstacle we face is the technology to extract these hydrocarbons at a reasonable cost. It is very unlikely that another huge reservoir will be discovered; however, it is extremely likely (and currently happening) that oil companies will re-evaluate their older wells, and use the latest technology to produce hydrocarbons that were once left behind.

As long as the price per barrel of oil remains relatively high, oil companies will have interest in re-completing their older wells. Furthermore, they will also have interest in producing smaller reservoirs, which were once deemed unprofitable. This will help keep the supply of oil flowing for many years to come.

That won't happen. It will simply get more and more expensive.

The question is will we reduce our use of fossil fuels before the expense forces us to make major disruptive changes and sends our economy into a serious fall.

Or will the world reduce its' use before nations get into oil wars because they can't afford to buy it.

since "oil" can be made from vegetable or animal matter, this should never happen! The free availability of large amounts of hydrocarbons taken from the ground however is a different story. apart from military uses, i suppose maybe 100years!

It will not happen because by that time some new source of energy will be found to replace oil

Probably one or two hundred years. They were saying what you're saying 25 years ago.
