Because your sources are based on ancient Jewish oral traditions designed to galvanize an allegiance to a heirarchy of men and God - using fear.
At first, it took this extremist God to whip the people in line - the God gets softer and softer, as mankind becomes more and more enlightened (usually predicated by scientific discovery).

Little Miss Curious says god destroyed the people at the flood because "he got tired of trying" with them.
According to her Bible, humans had been on the Earth less than 2000 years.
For a being who is immortal, that sounds a bit quick, no?

First, I like your pic - Nick Nolte - good actor. We don't see him enough. Second, your question. If you're talking about the people of Noah's time that didn't get a CLUE - God got tired of trying. Now his people - us - are STILL not getting a clue - mean, prejudice, don't believe him, etc. and He was ready to kill us again UNTIL Jesus said, let ME take their sins by sacrificing myself. Through me - they can ask forgiveness from you." He didn't have to, but He did. If you believe in his Son, death will be welcomed! If not - it won't!
