For short term storage it should be fine...
However, if you leave it in too long you have to worry about the texture changing where the freezer pulls any moisture out of the cheese where the cheese become dry and crumbly/gritty.

Hard or semi-hard cheese can be frozen if cut in 1/2 to 1-pound blocks. Wrap in plastic wrap and then put in freezer bags. After freezing, cheese may become crumbly and mealy, but, it will retain its flavor. It works best for cooking.
Plan to use frozen cheese within 4 to 6 months. Thaw cheese in the refrigerator. Use soon after thawing.
The cheeses that freeze best are brick, Camembert, cheddar, Edam, mozzerella, muenster, Parmesan, provolone, Romano and Swiss. Blue cheeses are more prone to becoming crumbly but they'll still taste good. Cream cheese and cottage cheese do not freeze well. Shredded cheese may become kindof mushey.

Oh yes, definitely! I buy blocks of it, shred them, and put them in the freezer. There are about 7 different bags of shredded cheese in my freezer right now. It's so handy and I don't find that flavor or texture has been compromised.

Yes! You can store any type of dairy product (including milk) in the freezer for up to six months.
When storing cheese in the freezer, make sure to wrap in freezer paper to protect from freezer burn.
When storing cheese period, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remove from the plastic wrapper! (We are the only country that puts our cheese in plastic...this promotes the growth of science projects!) Wrap the cheese in cheese cloth, aluminum foil, brown paper bag, wax paper...anything other than the plastic the cheese comes in at the store!

It's fine if your going to add it to something that is cooked. It changes the texture and makes it crumble.
