This is used for hunting dogs to toughen their foot pads. Dachshunds were tradtionally bred to hunt badgers so maybe this will help. It worked on my Airedales who loved to play on the frozen pond but got coldddd pads.

I love Dachshunds, they are so cute. My in laws used to raise them and they definitely have minds of their own. I know that my in laws use to have a dry towel for their doggies as soon as they came in and they would make a big fuss over saying good girl or good boy, lets get those little paws warm.

Of course all dogs love all the attention, and it turned the drying off into a big playtime, and that seemed to help. Some dogs just do not like to have the doggie booties on their feet, they cannot balance correctly or something.

My Pom hates getting her feet soaked although she loves leaping around in the snow and pretending she is a sled dog and practically will drag whoever is walking her through the snow. She really loves it if I use the blow dryer on warm on her feet and legs when she comes in, and will stay in my lap for a long time while being dried off.

You may want to try carrying him to the go spot and then carrying him back in. I know they can get spoiled really easily; but as long as you only do this when it is is lousy weather out, it may help both of you.

My vet recommended that I not force my Pom to wear the booties, little dogs can get their feelings hurt quite easily, and you do not want to damage the trusting relationship you have with your little guy.

If I have to be out in the cold for a longer time than usual with my Pom, I will carry a set of those orange hand warmers inside my gloves or mittens and then cuddle her into my coat and put her feet into my hands. I'm sure she would prefer to be inside my coat for the whole trip....

Hope this helps your little guy, and we can only pray that spring will be here soon. Have a good night.

Did you get the booties made for dogs specifically. I use these for my dogs when its cold, and there is Velcro that wraps around the ankle to attach the slipper to the foot. And for gosh shake supervise the dog when they wear them. It might be a good idea to put them on him inside the house and let him walk around in them. He is going to walk funny for a while until he gets use to them. You are going to have to make him wear them if thats what you want is to keep his feet warm. You be the boss not him. Just like a 2-3 year old child creating drama and throwing a fit. he is just very passive about it by limping. Sure he is cold, but now he sees that you feel sorry for him and shower him with attention when he limps. You feel insecure about him being cold and limping, and he sees you as the weak one in his pack, and he dominates you. When a child falls down and scraped his knee do we baby them their entire life? No, we have to eventually teach them to get up and keep going. Same with dogs. Don't worry...he can learn to accept the booties.

I have two dachshunds. One gets cold and shivers uncontrollably, the other takes the cold air like a champ. I have tried the booty's as well and I agree they don't work. I would carry him while walking on concrete and let him down in the grass to go do his business. Unfortunately, I don't think you have many options.

my terrier dog didn't want to walk in his booties at first. So I just made him. I would walk and if he didn't follow he got dragged. He soon learned that walking in booties is not so bad. Now he does it without a problem. If the booties fall off then put zip ties on them (not tight) and after you are done walking just snip the zip ties off. That is what I do. My dog doesn't care.

I have two doxies....and I know from experience they hate rain and cold weather. Would it be possible for you have a heating pad for your pup to go to after coming in from outside so he can warm his feet? (And really his entire body....they love being SUPER toasty) If the problem is that he's cold whiles he's outside, the I don't know what to suggest, unless you warm him up, take him out, then let him warm up again.

Try feeding it less if he limps its cuz his short little legs hurt he probably shouldn't weigh more than 15lbs
