I worked out for the 1st time in 4 months and for the last 3 days
I have been in exruciating pain in my triceps. I can't even lift
my arms to comb my hair, eat food, etc. I take lipitor every night
for my cholesterol. Would this have any effect on the intensity
of my muscle pain or is it because I was just not used to working
out? Will this pain go away because it is very debilitating

No this is not from the combination of both. You didn't mention how long you have been on the lipitor but call your doc and report this to him/her as severe muscle pain is a major side effect of cholesterol meds.

First of all your heart is a muscle, and if you're THAT sore after working out, the Lipitor could be affecting all of your mucles including your heart. Muscle pain or weakness is an adverse side effect of Lipitor! You must go to your doctor.

My father, a physician himself, takes Lipitor and works out. He took time off from working out during an illness, and once he resumed his muscles were very sore, especially his legs.

He knew he had to get blood work done right away. He thought it could be the Lipitor. Turns out his liver enzymes were not in the safe/normal range. They reduced his Lipitor to half the dose, every other day. His muscles are no longer sore after work outs and his cholesterol levels are still really L O W!

Unless these Answer! people have done medical research in hyperlipidemia treatments and liver damage due to lipid reducing drugs, they shouldn't give advice.

Please call you doctor today! Tell them you would like an appointment and ask to have your liver enzymes tested. Take care!!

Use a chiropractor and massage therapist with the principles below.
Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

i've been on lipitor for about a year; have been working out (pumping iron, running) regularly -- as in 4, 5 times a week -- since 1984 [ yeah i'm an old guy ] ; did not notice any effects as a result of taking lipitor. most likely the effect you're talking about is the result of not being used to working out, + you probably pushed yourself way to hard after the layoff.

This could be because of muscle fatigue or dehydration. Try exercising all parts of your body. It also sometimes is due to disuse atrophy. Try out some home remedies. You can also look for information in the web that give you home remedies. I found this website very useful. http://aches.in/cramps.html
