I am looking for one or two white doves to release at my wedding in Oct in memory of my mom who passed away last year. I've heard the only thing I can get is white pigeons, but I really want to find doves if possible(money isn't an issue). Any ideas on who has them or where I can find some (I'm in the KC area) or am I stuck with using pigeons?

That's a very sweet gesture to honor mom on your wedding day. I'm sure she'd be all smiles in Heaven.

Re: finding doves
Most options have already been said - some making more sense than others. So unless it's a local ordinance that would prevent you from using them, I do believe you'd see doves at your wedding.

May I suggest, however, that you let the wedding coordinator or planner handle details like these. Delegate the dove chasing task to others so you can concentrate on other stuff (you know what I mean).

My very best wishes to you.

Nope, they don't do doves. They're really white carrier pigeons, because pigeons come back after being released. Doves just keep on going.

Pigeons ARE doves.

Make sure it's legal to release doves or any other animal - including butterflies.

Look at your pet shops. Some of them may be able to order you some doves. Up here, in Ohio, we have doves that come around here naturally, all the time. Maybe you can get some snow doves or turtle doves.

My wife's brother released white doves at his wedding which I thought was a stupid idea and I let that be known to everyone present. The birds are farm raised and know from nothing how to survive in the wild. I doubt any of them managed to survive more than a few days.

Damn, I hate stupid people.

SOrry about your mother. Light a memory candle and maybe have her picture discreetly placed nearbyinstead. Doves are stupid pen-raised birds that unable to take care of themselves after they are released. Don't get me wrong, I am no bunny-hugger (I am a hunter) but I read that about the doves and think it is sorta cruel...

Sounds like it is some sort of ordinance in your area of the country...check with your city hall. Some cities don't allow the releasing of doves....

honestly i wouldn't even realese doves... what if they poo on something, but besides that... at my mom's wedding we released monarch butterflies. it was so pretty, instead of just flying away they hovered around for a little while. look on the net, you can have them shipped to you with instructions. congrats!
