depending on what kind of....if mating after the bird is mature (generally 18-24months) if mating was chosen for reproduction you can see an egg laid within a day or so. In fact you can tell a bird is with egg by looking at her dropping which should noticeably larger.

After birds (mate) ? Some pair -up and `mate` before nest building. Others pair up in mid-winter,stay apart (mostly) and mate during nest building when temperatures(and eventual insect food, is available. After nesting and laying eggs some species will continue to mate with their own partner, and any other available female. Some maintain harems, continually mating with many females to ensure that their genes saturate as wide an area as possible. In general, egg laying while begin within a month of mating/nest building. Birds also delay laying eggs in unfavourable conditions, blizzard, or severe weather, indicating a food shortage .

It depends on the species as too how old they have to be to lay eggs. For chickens, it is about 21 weeks of age.

Many species (such as poultry) will lay all year round even if there is no male around, but garden birds such as the blackbird will only lay enough to hatch out, in the spring.

It depends on the species. Some take longer than others.

It may vary from species to species as it does with the hatching. I would be very interested to know this answer too.
