My min pin, who is about 2, has recently decided he does not want to be left alone! The past 2 times he was alone, he started to tear up the carpet along the door, AND, we have a door that we close from the kitchen to the front of the house. Yesterday, he clawed to door until it opened, THEN when he got through, he ATE one of the blinds..the wooden slats AND the string on our front window. OH MY GOSH I AM SO GOING TO HANG HIM!!! So, now that I have to find some sort of obedience place to take him, what do I do in the mean Time? any suggestions??? We have recentlly moved to a new house, but we have been here for a month, and there is NO WAY he should still be weird. PLEASE HELP!!

Okay, first of all, your dog is still adjusting to the new home after only one month. It can take awhile for dogs to adjust to new surroundings. There are medications that can help with anxiety - you might want to talk to your vet. Sometimes short term medication can help with these things. Ask your vet about the drug clomipromine. The other thing is to crate train your dog so he has the security of the crate when you are gone (and he can't destroy the house). I would also recommend some toys to keep him busy while you are away - a Kong toy filled with peanut butter will keep your dog busy for awhile!

Obedience classes are certainly worthwhile - a dog that knows basic commands is a better pet and the class will give you two some bonding time. However, obedience classes will not help with the separation anxiety, per se.

Lack of exercise is causing you problems. You did not mentioned any form of exercise, therefore I will assume the lack there off is causing you headaches. I understand the "crate" usage but, using it on a dog that had never been crated prior can start even more anxiety. Wake up and hour earlier walk your dog for a good 30-45 minutes maybe play some, then leave him. Try this on your day off and only leave him for a 1 or 2 hours and see what happens.

I have a 1yr 8month old Min Pin and your dog sounds JUST like MY dog! Funny! We moved 2 weeks ago and I paid for two doors, new carpet, and a set of Blinds in our Old Apartment! No Joke! I was sitting in the Living room one day and he decided to claw the carpet and I didn't hear a THING!

What I ended up doing with mine was getting a Medium sized Plastic Crate and locking him up in that while I was away at work. Try putting a Blanket in there for him. At first we might potty in it or even BARK until you think u might go CRAZY... but the next thing I did was got him a "No Bark" collar and it may sound Mean- but it shocks him every time he barks- so it took about 4 shocks until he never barked!!

G'Luck!

I am not sure if you have moved with this dog before but to me it looks like he's scared of the new place and does not want to be left alone..if you catch him in the act of eating the blinds or chewing on the carpet dissipline him..also maybe when you're gone give him more toys of sorts to play with and keep him occupied..other wise you might have to get a crate for him while you're gone

He could still be having moving anxiety, but all you can do is start crating him in your absence. It sounds like he has developed separation anxiety which is very common in dogs, I've had two of them. There is a medication called Clomicalm that helps with this syndrome, but crating them is the quickest easiest way to deal with it right this minute until meds would be able to get the behavior under control.

Sounds like your dog has separation anxiety, I didn't think dogs had that until my dog's Vet told me......my dog had it when she was a puppy......Try leaving the TV on, sometimes that calms them down. Or I read that some people make recordings of their voices and play it when they leave so the dog thinks that they are still in the house when they really are not. Hope this helps.

Get your dog a crate, and put him/her in there when you leave. The move may have scared him. give him a stuffed toy with a ticking sound and lots of love when you are home.

Buy a dog crate that is fairly large and confine him to it when you are not goign to supervise him. Otherwise he will destroy your house. It is much cheaper to buy the crate than to constantly replace furnishings, doors and wall coverings.

He need a training crate NOW! He goes in it every time you leave! He only comes out when you are home. He will get the idea!

I agree with everyone who said to crate train him. Crates do wonders! I would never have a dog if it wasn't for the crate.
