My mother told me she would never make me or my brother take care of her and doesn't want us to because we will have our own lives and spouses and children to deal with by then and she doesn't want to interfere with it. She said she would want us to put her in a home and only want us to come by once or twice a month. The only problem is, my mother is my best friend and when the time comes I don't think I'll be able to do it...

Years ago I said YES I would put my parents in home because that is what the homes are for.

Now as I get older I have changed my mind completely and will not allow this to happen. I will add on my home if I have to, to make sure my parents have their own space and privacy all the while I giving them the care they need.

Even under difficult circumstances I will take them in and simply get extra help if the need arises.

I have visited people in the nursing homes and this is NOT an environment I want anyone I love to have to live in. They are horrible HORRIBLE places with many uncaring, untrained, or just plain worn out & fed up workers. I know I can do a better job for MY parents and I will.

I am that Mom ! I have wondered the same thing? I have 1 daughter and she is pretty busy it will depend upon how much care is needed would be the deciding factor. I really don't mind if its a decent place and someone comes to check on me often. Its when we are abandoned that it gets scary. You know kind of like a helpless little baby left alone and no one cares anymore.

You are right, some will put their parents in a home, esp. if they have their own families. But if its me, I will never put my mom or dad in a home, cause my mom did all the caring and love since I was born. She made sure that I will grow up in a good invornment, and peoples that will love me. She spent her waking moment so she can watchme, take care of me,and give all the love that she have in her heart.
I can't never put my Mom away, I think it's my turn now to be there for her, even I have my own family. And this is what Im teaching my kids in case I grow older and see their own family. No one in this world can really be so mean towards our mom, she gave all that she have to us,and we can't really abonden her because she getting to old. Being too old is like when we were infant, we all need to take care of them...........I just can't see myself putting my Mom any where...

If it get to a circumstances where i can't take care of my mom due to extremely busy schedule with my family, yes I would . I would check a nice and decent home I know she will be taking care of everyday. Just because some people put their family member in a home doesn't mean they don't care for them, they just want them to get the best care.

I wish I could give you an answer....

If I were capable fo caring for them on my own... I would. I have been in nursing homes... they aren't where I would want my family to be...

However, if you cant care for them... then you cant... you cant blame yourself for that. Just be sure to visit your parents/grandparetns if they do have to go in a home. Just having daily contact (via phoen or in person) means so much to these seniors. Even teh other seniors there will begin to look forward to your visits.

A friend of mine came up with a good "solution" to her problem with her grandmother. She brought her Grandmother to an elder care facility during the day, hired someone to "sit" with her Grandmother in the evening, or brought Grandma to a cousin's.....
She did these so that she could maintain a "normal" life... attend her chidlren's functions, go on a dinner date with her husband... go to work... grocery shop... go on over night trips... etc.

However, for the most part, she cared for her grandmother until she passed.

Another option is a senior "community." A co-worker of mine had an aunt that lived in a dorm style apartment for seniors. They had "meal plans," minikitchenets, and community transportation available. They had private living rooms, bedrooms, & bathrooms. However, they shared a laundry room and kitchen. They could do their own laundry or pay a nominal fee....

Below are a few links to local organizations. Go to them and see if your community has an "elder care" center that allows elders to be brought there for a few hours at a time... or whatever... they are getting more common.

Whatever you do... dont abandon them... dont leave them alone... that is the only true "sin" you can do them

I don't think so. As long as my husband and I were able to take care of our family, we would take care of my mom. I'd try not to put her into a home. I think a lot of it has to do with how the parent treated them growing up. What goes around comes around.

Make an section only for your self contained in the homestead. save it calm there. enable that peace safeguard you and radiate out into your position. Meditate or pray, in spite of you do. mushy, up beat music will be functional. Vanilla and lavender scents were time-honored to create a chilled feeling. save the realm loose from muddle and no matter if that is suitable, open the window briefly on a daily basis. bypass out in case you may. Get outdoors help and level an intervention if achieveable. advantages,

I don't want to ever put my mom in a home. If she needs someone to be with her all the time I'd either stay with her or find someone that could. Most people don't live long after they are put in a home unless it's their decision.
