But can you believe some BONEHEAD said this to defend "Nothingnism" yesterday?

"Atheists have radically different opinions on almost everything, as they adhere to no formal structure."

Here Ye! Here Ye!
The Nothingnism Anthem:
(King of Nothing speaks)
We shall have radically different opinions on almost everything! We shall adhere to no formal structure! Charge!

Nothingnism = Atheism (I know somebody's going to ask.....Yes?

Look guys religion is a way to believe in something so your dear life has a meaning!!!

If you live like that, good for you.....let everyone else have their own belief.....and if they don't then let them be!!!

How would you like me to put my gun and shove it into your throat unless you didn't believe what I believe on? Same thing with your religion if I don't go and ask you don't try to shove it, if at some time in my life I change I will look for what ever is missing!!!

Many tell me there is something out there or in heaven or in hell.....look if you can not prove it or disprove it just leave it alone!!!

I believe that everyone should be treated as an equal so respect my ways of being and I will respect yours.....try to shove it and I will let you meet my gun!!!

So far I have an okay life and never have gotten into much trouble and when I did never got caught sooo it does not count.....if there is a God and he thinks I deserve to pay let that be my and his business you are not my Mommy......and learn to respect others or we won't repect you either and you only need someone like me who does not care much on who I beat up as long as I get to have a nice peaceful life as I did before someone like you came along and didn't respect me and my own thoughts and beliefs!!!

Silly rabbit! Atheism is just an absence of belief in god(s). Atheists come in many flavors, from opposing religion to agnosticism. Yes, there are different flavors of agnostics also. The line isn't as black and white as you would like. I am an atheist in that belief in a god(s) doesn't exist for me. I am an agnostic in that, while I do not believe, I have no proof that there is no god(s), nor do I feel any inclination or mandate to try and prove the question one way or another. It's not important to me.

What is important to me is that those who do have such beliefs do not have the political power to mandate that others adhere to their beliefs or the use of the militarily to force compliance with their dogma or the right to cram it down the throats of other people's kids in our public school systems.

I'm all agog and, well, terrified. What will you do with what I have said?? Oh my!! Whatever you say, it will no doubt be as inane as your original question or your subsequent rantings. Do be sure to include references back to these original items - wouldn't want the audience to be deprived of background. Of course, they can always access both our accumulated questions and answers before drawing conclusions.

Jay..wouldn't it be Nothingism?

I am hard on the atheists but I think its good to realize that we always need people to question things. That is how change is made. Of course, nothing says that only atheists do this, lol. I also think we are making a wrong assumption to put all atheist into such a category.

As far as no formal structure...I am a Christian who chooses not to be actively involved in a local church and I question a LOT of things and I do not follow the concept of literal belief of the Bible to the exclusion of free thought and science...so I have no formal structure either.

People say things they do not mean and without thinking them through. Ignore them. <>

What's your problem with that sentence? Having different opinions on things and adhering to no formal structure....how does that translate into "nothingNism"? Can you explain that?

1. Actually, atheism is the disbelief in the existence of a god or gods, deities, what have you....

2. Yes, I can believe someone would post something idiotic. Is it so rare?

'Alongside the level of ingenuity and complexity exhibited by the molecular machinery of life, even our most advanced [twentieth century technology appears] clumsy. . . . It would be an illusion to think that what we are aware of at present is any more than a fraction of the full extent of biological design. In practically every field of fundamental biological research ever-increasing levels of design and complexity are being revealed at an ever-accelerating rate.

Rather a statement of the obvious, but religious people will probably find it hard to wrap their mind around it.

You do realize how silly you sound. Atheism is a broad category comprised of all philosophies that do not include a god figure.

Just as theism is comprised of all theologies that do.

2007-03-02 05:22:50 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 3 0

the heart of the problem is all or nothing. college professors preach nihilism, people want to believe in something, so religionist fill that void with "we know everything".
Where are the rationalists, who say, "we know somethings, what do we do with what we do know?"
