I currently own a GT Avalanche 3.0 and want to get a more seriuos bike. I've looked at the GT Avalanche 1.0 as well as the GT Zaskar.

I would prefer the Zaskar over the Avalanche since it's probably lighter, but have heard how the new frames seem prone to failure. Anyone know about the quality/weight of the new Zaskar frames? Would the Avalanche 1.0 be a better choice?

Any other recommendations?

www.gtbikes.com has info on the weight and durability of their bikes.

I've had a GT tempest for many years and it is virtually unbreakable.
