I AM NOT IMPRESSED WITH THE QUALITY OF THE VETTE STILL. I WAS GOING TO BUY ONE I LOOKED AT SEVERAL WHICH WERE A FEW MONTHS OLD WITH LESS THAN 8000 MILES ON THEM. THE LEATHER LOOKED POOR ALREADY WORN ON BOLSTERS. THE MUSTANG IS A 30 K CAR AND THE VETTE IS 50K CAR THE LEATHER QUALITY CHEVOLET USES IN THAT PRICE OF CAR IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE VETTE IS NICE LOOKING BUT IS TO SMALL FOR ME. PERFORMANCE BETWEEN THE TWO WILL BE A DEAD HEAT BUT I GIVE THE VETTE A LITTLE EDGE IN HANDLING IT IS ABOUT 400LBS LIGHTER THAN MUSTANG. I HAVE A 2006 SALEEN SUPERCHARGED 435 HP MUSTANG NOW. I AM USE TO ACURA AND HONDA AND FOR 30 K THE MUSTANGS QUALITY MATCHES OR EXCEEDS THE VETTE IN OVERALL QUALITY. YOU WILL ALSO FIND THE INSURANCE MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE FOR A VETTE. THE MUSTANG IS MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE AND MORE USABLE CAR THAN THE VETTE. THE EXTREME WILL ALSO BE A MUCH MORE EXCLUSIVE CAR THAN THE ZO6. THE PRICE OF THE EXTREME WILL BE IN THE 70K RANGE ABOUT THE SAME AS THE ZO6. BOTH THESE CARS ARE PHENOMAL CARS I AM JUST VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE OVERALL QUALITY OF THE VETTE.

the saleen is a better buy, and here is why: practicality, individuality, and overall safety.
i am a saleen dealer, and have taken a few vettes in on trade. the common complaint of a 'vette owner? no room on the inside. the s-281e will give you a back seat, useable trunk space, a better view of the road, and is easier for other drivers to see than the low-slung corvette.
every day you drive the 'vette, you will see someone with a car just like yours. the saleen will not give you this problem.
the saleen is made of steel, with a few composite parts. ever seen a wrecked corvette? nothing left but the skid marks in the seat, if you follow my meaning. send me an e-mail if you would like a dramatic example of the safety of the saleen, on of my customers totalled out an s-281sc a few months back. got hit in the rear by a semi hauling a load. walked away from the wreck with a sore neck and a new respect for Ford safety! (and a need for a new pair of drawers)
another responder referred to the saleen as a 30k car. let me assure you, this is not the case. an extreme will run you in the 70k+ range, but with that you get new suspension, a heavily upgraded engine, new interior, different guages, and a totally new look.
you might also consider a parnelli jones edition, more limited in production (500 max) with a 5.0 non-charged 400 hp engine. accelerates better than the new svt shelby. i've driven both. as far as comparing between the 'vette handling and the saleen, it's like this: straight shot, the 'vette wins. throw in some turns and twists, the saleen will out handle the vette each and every time.
if you are in or near oklahoma, send me an e-mail and i will give you some more info, and set up an appointment for you to come in and see the parnelli jones edition i have on my showroom floor.

I have to say the Saleen, My wife and I looked at Corvettes, and when it came to exclusivity, the Saleen s281 convertible we bought wins hands down. We live in Idaho and we like to take road trips. this was the biggest reason we went with the Saleen. if you have a Corvette it is only going to be an overnight trip or you need to ship your clothes ahead of you. The Saleen has a real trunk and we have grand kids now so it great to be able to do special events and take the grandkids along in the back seat. As far as performance, any Corvettes showing off always seem to calm down when they see us show up. They are both fast, both handle great, but the extra quality of not driving a car that still uses wood in it's construction causes me extra concern. (corvette)

A timber bodied six-seat "sources vehicle" (station wagon) on the chassis of a Hilman "Minx" (the smallest saloon aka sedan outfitted in Chrysler's uk subsidiary, first registered January a million, 1940, and utilized by technique of a farmer throughout WW2, which i purchased on lbeing "demobilised" from the British military in 1949. Its in reality disorder became that there became no provision for adjusting the pressure on the fan belt, so the battery kept operating down. I continuously began it with a crank, no longer being able to believe the battery to exhibit the starter motor quick sufficient. No storage could advise a remedy until eventually I had had to emphasise from London to Loughborough through the evening gloom and early evening on my aspect lighting fixtures, blinded by technique of each oncoming vehicle. finally a storage proprietor more suitable powerfuble than each and each of the others replaced my rubber fan belt with one made up of little products of leather-depending riveted jointly, and took off only the right variety of hyperlinks to get the pressure suitable. It made a metallic tinkle even as idling besides the undeniable fact that the project became solved. Such became the shortage of latest autos contained in the united kingdom on the on the spot placed up conflict that in 1951 I bought it at auction at a small income.

Although they're both very good, I would definitely the Corvette. It's faster and looks better. Good Luck.
