The retainer around the windshield has to be torqued in a certain sequence, like a cars cylinder head bolts.
The numbers are the torquing sequence.
When I used to do this, I had a cardboard template that I'd lay on the window, and it had the sequence written on it, so I wouldn't have to mark the aircraft.

That is the order that the screws need to be tightened. The windshield was just replaced. The reason that you do not see a 1 is because it is under the attachment that connects the two windshields. No that section is a cover and does not need to be tightened in a certian order.
There is a manual that has the order written but some mechanics like to write them down. The numbers will wash off after a couple of flights.

it is quite common for these screws to be of different lengths, this is one way to ensure that he right screw goes back ito the right hole. The numbers were probably written on there by the person who changed the windshield and hasn't had the opprtunity to remove them yet.

Sorry Kenn, there is a 1, right in the middle on the bottom. That's just the European way to write a 1, so it doesn't get confused with a small L. The seven is crossed.
