I'm 22 years old and uncut. I have a pretty long, think foreskin, that my doctor noticed and should mentioned that I should look into getting it circumcised.

Should I have the procedure done? Is it better to be with-out the foreskin? Girls, do you prefer a circumcised guy?

Hi Tim,

Circumcision was a standard practice for the Jewish People as a sign of separation from Non-Jews. It was a matter of signifying their identity as Jews. Hebrew children were circumcised shortly after birth, and, converts to Judaism were circumcised upon the adoption of their new found faith. In the New Testament, this became a serious point of contention for the Jews that embraced Christianity. The question was brought to the Apostle Paul, who instructed that it was not necessary to be circumcised, but, rather one should follow their own conscience regarding this issue. That being said, there have been several studies by the American Medical Association that indicate that circumcision is of little or no physical advantage. As with all parts of the body, this area requires daily inspection and proper cleaning. There are also many proponents for leaving the foreskin attached. They believe that there is little advantage to removing it, claim that it reduces sensitivity, and, that there is a decrease in sexual gratification. How they determine this is beyond me, since, you can't remove it, try it out, replace it, and run a comparison. But, that's their claim. I find it interesting that your doctor would suggest that you consider circumcision, since that seems to flow contrary to the present trend. There is a considerable movement toward not even introducing the option after the birth of male children. And, in some places it is either totally abandoned, or illegal. I suggest that you seek the advice of a specialist in this area, or, maybe several, before you make up your mind. As with every procedure, there is an element of risk. Be sure that you are aware of all the risks, before, you take any step in that direction. Infection in my knee, following a simple surgery, has crippled me for life. So, do the research.

Good luck, and, God Bless!

I can't speak for the girls. I was circumsized at birth, and I'm glad. As far as you having the procedure, I'd listen to my doctor. If he recommends it then I would seriously consider it. There may be reasons he hasn't told you about yet for having it done. Get a second opinion from a urologist.

You should consider it but get a second opinion first.
