Where do they put the microchip? Is it the back of the neck? Can you feel a lump where the chip is after it has been done?

My two cats both have microchips. It was required by the shelter when we adopted them. The chips are in the scruff of their neck, but I can't feel them and never have been able to feel them, even when it was first done. I saw them put them in both cats, and it really didn't seem like a painful thing. It takes literally a second to put it in.

Hope that helps.

I had both my kittens microchipped when they were neutered so they were under the anaesthetic anyway. If you get a kitten from the Cats Protection League they give you a voucher for free microchipping when you get the cat neutered. Most cats coming from shelters will already have been microchipped. The chip goes in the scruff of the neck and you can't feel it. It is a really good idea - just remember to tell the mirochip company if you move house!

All of my cats have been microchipped and they are strictly indoor pets. The only time they leave my house is to go to the vet. I work at a humane society so I've microchipped many cats and dogs, including my own. The needle is fairly large but the microchip is the size of a grain of rice. If properly inserted, it can be done fairly quickly with minimal discomfort to the animal.

I find that with kittens, puppies and thin skinned dogs (toy breeds) you can sometimes feel the microchip. You don't want to really rub it a lot because that can send it traveling.
When an animal is scanned, the area between the shoulder blades and halfway down the back is where we look first.

I've had two of my cats microchipped. The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and it's inserted just under the skin (usually at the base of their neck between their shoulderblades).

There shouldn't be a lump where the chip has been inserted. Sometimes, especially if the cat is young, you might be able to feel the chip at first, but since my cats have grown larger I can't say that I ever notice it now.

Hope that helps.

It is put in the back of the neck around that area but I couldn't feel a lump or anything even when my cat had it done he was an adult but he didn't seem to mind it was done in a matter of seconds just the same as getting a vaccination but they put a scanner over the area after it was done just to check that the microchip was working.

ok Microchips are inserted only below the exterior (could properly be accomplished conscious or anaesthetised) by technique of an enormous needle. Microchips can no longer migrate into body cavities eg abdomen/chest or organs eg heart lungs kidney liver ect. they could migrate in a horizontal route alongside the bottom of epidermis in a 2 inch route, this causes no issues. there is not any documented reactions to microchips. Cats react more suitable to the soreness of a vaccine than the implantation of a chip. it truly is fairly threat-free!!! the exterior grows again over the hollow interior days so bathing and rain is not any issue in any respect, you perhaps aboe to experience the chip and soemtimes you won't be able to. the way it truly works is in case your cat is lost and brought to a vet or the different source that has a scanner they test the chip and get an identity determination they then ring the registration position and substances the identity determination the regsitration position has all of your data that you've presented on an information base and they are going to grant your data in reality to an approved scanning position. All stumbled on cats could be scanned to envision for a chip.

All my cats had microchips implanted 10-15 years ago. They are usually put in the back of the neck area and you cannot feel them. Scanners must be used to detect them and check the information in the database.

Yeah, worst part was getting the fan in to cool the Pentium 4. (Really you can't feel the microchip in the scruff of the neck if it's done properly).

Yes I have and luckily they work just fine. My neighbours who also Microchipped there cat also had it run off elsewhere and bed down with a tempoary home as cats do from time to time, luckily the micro chip was able to tell the people who the cat was and return it to its rightful owners when they took it to a vet to check.
