Seriously, all other dead animals (mammals, reptiles, birds) are considered meat and are therefore prohibited to Christians on Fridays during Lent. But they can eat fish. Why?

Actually....
The original ruling didn't say you couldn't eat meat on Friday. It said you had to eat fish on Friday.

Pope Pious (I think) had a nephew who was a fishermonger. To help his nephew it was declared that everyone should eat fish on Friday...

I don't know when it changed to 'no meat', but many have taken that to mean no terrestrial animals may be eaten.

Back in the day the local fishermen went to the Vatican and complained that their seafood sales were bad. So the pope at the time said he will then make it a rule that all Fridays will be a no meat day and only seafood can be eaten.

it's called sacrifice. At one point meat, fish, milk, cheese, and eggs were forbidden during Lent. However, in recent years the Roman Catholic Church has relaxed its laws on fasting.

I'm a Christian and today I am having a big fat juicy hamburger for lunch...As a Christian I am free from all man-made religious laws for me Jesus paid the price for me with his sacrifice on the cross and I do not want to pervert his sacrifice in any way.

Because nobody wanted to fast (not eat anything) which was what you used to have to do on Fridays if you were a true believer. The fish rule was invented by the catholics to give their followers a feeling that they had sacrificed without really sacrificing anything.

Because somebody made a silly rule about it centuries ago. The point of fasting (for religious purposes) is to make a sacrifice. Why eating fish (like LOBSTER) is considered making a sacrifice is beyond me.

It's all just superstition. Just ask yourself:If Christ could walk on water and raise the dead, why couldn't he come down from the cross? None of it makes any sense. It's a combination of mythology, brainwashing and pure nonsense.

I'm pretty sure it only applies to Catholics...but I could be wrong.

Good question though. I have no idea. I speculate that it had something to do with the fact that Jesus's disciples were fishermen?
