If you are moving to the UK you will need a bank account over here. The cheapest way will be to open your UK account with this money.

I would initally agree with the Post Office suggestions but that is a lot of euros to change in one go. I would suggest ringing up a post office that does foreign excahange,and some banks and travel agents, near me Co-op travel and Going Places are good and ask for their rate and if you are ok bringing that amount to exchange.
Also dont forget to take some id with you. They may well ask for it being such a large amount.
As for the post office not charging commsion, I think they may well do unless you bought them there in the first place.

Lots - commission free Marks & spencers, Thomas Cook, Post Office, Travel Agent and of course banks! do not go to a exchange booth will charge you commission!

Banks or the Post Office - different Banks will have different rates.
Sometimes the travel agents will give a good rate too.

I'd go to Marks and Spencers (it's a department store, but most branches have a place you can change currency). There's tons of places you can go, but I've always found the exchange rate in Marks and Spencers is the best.

Most Post offices and travel agents have exchange counters and a lot do not charge commission.Banks will oblige but mainly charge you for the privilege
