I'm thinking about attending Celebration IV in LA this year. I need help finding inexpensive and safe hotel accomodations in the vicinity of the LA convention center. I intend to fly into LAX and take a cab to my hotel and to & from the convention, so cab fair estimates or cab company numbers for the city would be helpful. Thanks!

If it matters, the convention is in the later part of May

I would do a search on the LA convention center's website for area hotels, especially for those that offer complimentary shuttles from the airport, I'm assuming LAX, although Burbank may be a better alternative to fly in. When I went to Celebration III in Indy I used www.lodging.com and found a hotel and a car in the suburbs of Indy. If you want to explore LA, you may want to consider renting a car.

it relies upon on your definition of "close". i like to proceed to be north of the Gaslamp District, which keeps the speed down. It way a fifteen-20 minute walk to the convention middle, or a short cab journey. once you're happy with that, then i tips the motel Occidental. i have stayed there 3 years for the time of July's S.D. comic-Con (an particularly busy time) and paid below $one hundred a night time. no longer too many frills - loose continental breakfast inspite of the truth that - and a lot less severe priced than the giant skyscraper hotels downtown.
