Quit bashing us. Don't let the few bad apples who get exploited by the media because of their stupid deeds ruin it for the rest of us. And finally understand we have a job to do, even if the Left doesn't agree with it, a huge majority of us in the military do believe in what we are doing.

I was happy to serve my country, and it was at a time when the soldier was overlooked. It warms my heart now seeing people go out of thier way to show a soldier appreciation for what they have done. I did not serve my country to get anything in return, but understand that what a soldier goes through and what a civilian goes through are very different. You cannot just leave the military and enter a civilian world very easily. There has to be a transition, and I think there should be some kind of job training set up by the government to better train the soldiers leaving active duty. The classes they have for transition do ot even come close to preparing you for a civilian life again. We need job training, a better transition program, and a system set up by the government to assit us in finding a job before we leave. There is one in place now, but it doesn't really assist well enough. I left and had nothing prepared. I lived off my travel allowance and looked for a job on my own. The job I took was lousy, but paid the bills. It has taken me too long to finally find a decent job. So, talk to your congresspeople, and see if they can provide some assurance of a normal life after the armed forces.

Speaking as a permanently disabled combat infantry veteran, the best thing that you can do for soldiers and veterans is to stop the war, desist from war unless attacked and support the troops when they come home by telling the government to increase the funds spent on medical treatment.
The fact is that although many Americans want to continue the war, but they are not willing to have their taxes raised to support a war. The Iraq war has killed over 3,000 US soldiers and wounded over 50,000. Most of these, like myself, will require medical treatment and disability pensions for the rest of their life. That doesn't include those who now have mental problems. The VA hospitals were overcrowded before we went to Iraq. Now none of us veterans are getting the needed attention and care, and it will only get worse. The situation at Walter Reed is representative of most VA hospitals.
I am not against war, and I fought vigorously when necessary. But I have a hard time with people who have never been in war and say that we must win at all costs. I just wish that they could spend a few months in action.

being a veteran from afghanistan and iraq and one who has seen combat and earned a purple heart i feel the civilian people could be alot more supporting. for example when i got back a few motnhs ago from iraq and went home on leave to riverside ca i noticed that people like oh wow but really did not care. it was almost like they didn't know there was a war over there. business should want to cater to veterans and all the huge companies, airlines, amusement parks, and other things should honestly be free. i am not saying like hey i should get everything free but maybe go to the movies for free or to disneyland. they make so much money they should want to support veterans more. and airlines are the worst. got back went to buy an airline ticket for me and my wife and since the army doesn't give you time to plan in advance it was like 1200.00 dollars and that was with a military discount.

don't believe all the crap the news tell you in the evenings! stand behind your fellow americans! unfortunately there is some screwups that do dumb things, lyndie england, the usmc guys who murdered those irais, but there are always bad apples in every crowd. then there is stuff like jessia lych...wow, she gets a medal for not knowing how to read a compass and a map, for not firing her weapon once at the enemy who captured her...someone must have been sleeping during the land nav and code of conduct training....sorry for the rant...just stand behind the little men and women who are willing to die for the greater well being of all.

1. Demand that the media tell the TRUTH. They are not telling anyone about the GOOD that has been accomplished in Iraq and Afghanistan.
2. Vote for people who are willing to push for full funding of Defense, including providing better benefits to Reservists, increasing pay, and providing for the best personal equipment in the world.
3. Say "thanks."
4. Employ former members of the military and serving reservists and guardsmen.
...just off the top of my head...

Ditto. The best thing is to support the war effort, vote republican because they are the only ones who won't defund the war, send them support packages (www.anysoldier.com is a great one) and when you hear liberals protesting to you in the freezer isle of the grocery store tell them I support our troops and their mission 100% and regardless of how you feel about the commander in chief they need to accomplish their missions because failure is not an option.

I think we recieve great support from most people and our communities. I know people are against the war but we are just doing are job as soldiers so it is very upsetting when people are against us. I love my country and I am just doing what I can to support it. Thank you to all who do support us and pray for us and our brothers and sisters. If you see a soldier on leave on something just let them know you support them it means alot to us to know that. Thanks.

You people said it all when I came back from Vietnam. You should be ashamed of yourselves for what you did to us. Ignoring us now is par for the course. Just remember, we didn't start that war, we just went were we were ordered to go. I hope you all do better with these kids coming home today. They deserve nothing but your respect & gratitude, something we NEVER got.
