I can speak, read and write both languages and my advice is, pick one language and learn it first before you try to learn the other... even then, you still use a word in one language when you want to use the correct word in the other.
I learned French first but it caused me trouble learning Spanish.

BBC languages - provides lots of info and links. Also check out www.wordreference.com. or Babelfish.
There is another one but not sure of the name - linkword language.com or somthing like that.

there are lots of sites that can help you, just type "spanish tutorial" "french tutorial" and you'll see.
