I think you mean before God told Moses that "murder" is wrong.
Of course they didn't. They just killed people because, hey, why not?

Yes, look at the first incident in the Bible about murder, Cain & Abel. It happened many years before Moses & the 10 Commandments. God punished Cain right away for the murder, thus showing that people knew that murder was wrong from the beginning.

well God informed mankind it was wrong with the first family. remember Cain and Able and God punishment? if God had not sent Cain away would God not have given the okay for murder. but to look further into your statement Without God us human animals would have no moral compass. everything would be right it truly be survival of the fittest.

"Before God told Moses that GOD was wrong....."
That's hard to follow.
However, may I direct you to God's words to Cain, soon after Cain murdered his brother Abel.
"Your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground." Genesis 4:10
This would indicate God knew and cared that murder was wrong.
No?

Cain knew it because he lied to God when he killed Abel, according to the bible.. so mosaic law didn't matter in that case.
I'm sorry they upset you with the murder/atheist thing, Sean. But, there are plenty of us who know that atheists have morals.. look at the prison population in the U.S. for statistics ;)

Yes because just like people who dont know God know that murder is wrong, the "Old testament people" were still subject to the Law of Nature.....

Yep.
But then there are a few smartasses who would say "Wait, I don't see any rule saying killing is wrong."
Or they would get a lawyer. Lawyers have been around since the time of the dinosaurs.
After the commandment thingy, it's written in stone....literally. So they can't snitch they way out of this.

I think once Cain got punished for killing Abel someone (not everyone) probably made the connection. I'm just guessing though

Ever heard of honor killing? That was the state of things then. One murder was avenged with another.

I would like to think so, but probably not, that is why various religious books, 'bibles' exist to develop a moral code, sadly human kind has not learned these lessons!
