My uncle (45y) is using Dexchlorpheniramine maleate - 2mg. TDS. for the treatment of some skin problem since 7 days. Now he is suffering from tonsils of throat. I want to know that is there any link between this drug and tonsils and is this dose is appropriate for him? Please help me. Thanx.

The medicine is used for allergys primarily. Your uncle might have a rash due to this condition. It does have a drying effect of the throat and mouth. Your uncle should be drinking lot of water to offset this side effect. Usually the body will adjust to the medicine after a few days.

Your uncle probably has tonsillitis or upper respiratory tract infection and it is possible that the symptoms are masked due to regular use of Dexchlorpheniramine maleate. Salted warm water gargle should give his some relief.

This drug is an antiallergic medicine. It is sued to clear allergic conditins. Tonsillitis is a infective condition and cannot be caused by this drug.

It's an antihistamine.

Yes, you can get a sore throat from using it.

The dose he's taking is perfectly safe.

this is an anti histaminic. it is used fr allergys/itching etc.it only causes dryness of throat and in some people may cause drowsiness too.

but it doesn't cause tonsillites.
