I usually have about 10+ bags of food and I usually tip about $4, is this about right or should I be tipping more?

Hi!

We have answered this several times in the last few months:

Seems the consensus was that it should be:

1. Related to how many carts, bags one has
2. Consistent with rank and or retired earnings:

a. Colonel & up $ 4-5 plus
b. Cpt-LTc, W-3-5, CSM a bit less
c. etc.

that enlisted spouses with say four kids should not feel pressured
to give more than a buck or two, and that retired folks like me with a double retirement, spouse that works should tip and let them know such.

But $4 was also the amount for a full cart, that most noted, we had a bagger I belive as well remark that it sounded about right.

So, I tip more but do talk to them as to see what is going on, but I do ask them as to how they felt if some PG lady gives them $1 and that seemed to have no issues, the "issue" was folks like me and those who park in the General-Colonel-W-5 spaces and just tip $1

UPDATE: just back from Fort Carson: asked two baggers, they say that the very old "widows" often tip too high and they will refuse, but as before: yea who parketh in the O-6/W-5 space shall remit a "fiver" :-) for the full cart. As it was cold, starting to snow, hey just early march, I gave the old gentleman a six buck for a near full cart. Told him to smile when that spouse with three rugrats gives him a buck.

I did add and will agin: I always tip $5 for my GI haircut, $10 at Christmas and such also to baggers. Besides many are retired and military family.

Thats a great tip, if I have less than a whole cart full when I go to the commissary then I just tip about $3.00 if it's a cart full or more, than I tip $5.00. I think your $4.00 is more than fair. But think of it this way, bagging groceries anywhere else is probably a minimum wage job. But they get payed in tips only, and if you give them 4$ and 2 more people give them 4$ in an hour they have just made 12$ an hour, and I assure you they are carring out more than 3 people's bags an hour. Hoped this helped.

25% - you've got to be kidding me. I could easily tip $50+ some months if I gave that much.

I usually tip about $3, more if I have a lot of groceries, less if I have fewer bags or the person seems especially horrid at their job. I hate the summertime when all the high school kids are up there - some of them are great, but some of them pay no attention to what they're doing. One time we had two young guys talking about needing to be tested for STDs because they'd both slept with the same infected girl. Needless to say, they didn't get a very good tip.

Aww..the commisary. i'm getting the very similar feeling each 1st and fifteenth. except it falls on a monday Lol! My family individuals eats a ton and that i in many cases finally end up with a caravan of two grocery carts via the time i'm getting to the checkout stand. If I easily have both carts (about 20 bags) I provide them $5.00 if I merely have one cart load, I continually provide them 3$. If i'm contained in the certain lane and that i merely purchase some issues, I in many cases merely provide them $a million. Screw them for being snotty over the 50 cents. often times I dont tip if I merely have one bag, especailly if that is a bagger I dont like. i understand they're merely paid via assistance and not in any respect Decca. yet i'm certain a twin of my commisary there are continually a million people in there. So imagine of all those groceries they bag and take out in a unmarried hour. in spite of in the journey that they do 2 @ 5$ each and each in assistance, thats 10$ an hour in funds! The quantities I listed are better than plenty. wish this helped.

Considering my son is a bagger, the more the better, lol. Honestly for 10+ bags, depending on how fast and mature the bagger is, I'd tip about $5 or more.

Hey,
I am a bagger at my local commissary (travis afb). I'm 15 years old and only work on the weekends. I usually get $2-3 for one full cart, $4-$7 for two full carts. It just depends on the person who is giving the tip, if its like the General's wife, then she'll give me like $7 for a half-full cart. (keep in mind, we only work for tips and hate it when ppl dont tip us or only tip a dollar). So yeah, it just depends on how many groceries you have.

that is good. if they made that much from each and work for tips only......if they do 5 an hour that is 20 bucks......i'say good.

If you spend at the commissary like my mom used to spend....if you tipped 25%, she'd have been giving the bagger like $100. There's no way!! Mom would tip $1 for every buggy they wheeled out, maybe $2.

my tipping policy:

Being single, I normally only get around one bag of groceries which I carry out myself. I tip a dollar for this.

If they have to carry my groceries out for me, I tip two dollars for every $50 (or portion thereof) i spent in groceries. For example, if I bought 72 dollars in groceries I would tip 4 bucks. When I pin on a higher rank, I'll look at adjusting that up a bit.

I tip .50 cents per bag depending on whether or not the bagger does a good job. Break my eggs or squash my bread and I get real cheap real fast.
