that's fairly easy ...
sex is the act of sexual intercourse, purely for the physical enjoyment and arousal, usually for personal gratification. you can have sex with anyone, a one night stand, etc.
love making is where there's a deeper connection between two people, where you try to satisfy each other and tend to each other's needs and desires. it's often more sensual, and takes longer, purely to ensure your partner isn't neglected and achieves maximum enjoyment.

Making Love is incredible and indescribable. Holding each other and looking into her eyes. Telling her you love her kissing her gently yet passionately. Candle light and good smooth music. The scent of vanilla in the air. Something planned out. Both people getting to climax. Both making sure the other climaxs. The concerns and feelings for your mate are #1 priority.
Sex is 10 minutes in the back of the car to let off a little steam. Sex is us watching a movie and doing it right there on the couch. Is not caring how the other feels as long as you get what you needed.

There is no difference, it's a choice of words. There! :)
I just want to say for all the people below me who are saying there has to be an emotional connection, I have that emotional connection with my b/f ALL the time, even when we have sex... but we still have sex b/c we don't like to use lame words and phrases...
It's all still penis in vagina when it comes down to it, emotion or not...

"Sex" is just a physical thing which two people can engage in without feeling any emotion.
"Making love" is this same physical thing, yet the two people have deep sensual feelings for each other and care deeply about each other. There is deep emotion.

The former is sexual activity between two people who have affection for one another. The latter is a physical act.

sex is just sex, the animal instinct kind of physical relations.
making love is when two people who connect on some sort of emotional level express their feelings with their bodies.
to me that's what it means, at least.

i think its the emotional connection
if BOTH people have the same emotional connection to each other.. they BOTH feel the same way. they BOTH care for each other.
i would think is love making
sex would just be the act with no emotional connection from one or both parties
