Copyright is a protection that covers published and unpublished literary, scientific and artistic works, whatever the form of expression, provided such works are fixed in a tangible or material form. This means that if you can see it, hear it and/or touch it - it may be protected. If it is an essay, if it is a play, if it is a song, if it is a funky original dance move, if it is a photograph, HTML coding or a computer graphic that can be set on paper, recorded on tape or saved to a hard drive, it may be protected. Copyright laws grant the creator the exclusive right to reproduce, prepare derivative works, distribute, perform and display the work publicly. Exclusive means only the creator of such work, not anybody who has access to it and decides to grab it.

So for those who believe God to be the creator, only he would hold the rights to the copyright....

No god copyright. But the "Bible" can and is copyrighted. The "King James Authorized Version" has its copyright held by the ruling monarch of England. This is how the Queen earns money buy collecting a royalty for every bible sold. In fact the KJV has many creative innovations like changing Jewish names to those of the monarch's family. Jacob becomes James, Meriam becomes Mary, and such.

Every bible in common use has a copyright. Some of these publishers might be in a bind to prove they are not infringing on other works, or are not based on public domain documents such as the Dead Sea scrolls, greek or latin texts. Remember, copyrights are not issued on the basis of authenticity but rather for creativity and originallity of thought. God has never signed a registration document, just his "helpers".

The actual text of bibles or any other printed work prior to 1925 is considered to be in the public domain in the US.

No...no one has a copyright on God. Christians and other religions have different views and biases as most people do. We do not all believe the same thing or worship in the same way.

Scientology claims to own the copyright over their religion. Christianity's copyright has long ago expired.

considering no one can prove or disprove that a God actually exists, then no, no particular religion can own a copywright of something that may or may not exist.
