Klonopin is good for anxiety but you need to be careful. A better choice would be Prozac or Paxil. They take a few weeks to work but are very effective. I have been using Prozac for years for panic attacks and anxiety. Klonopin is good for times when you are actually having a panic attack because it will wor k pretty quick. I just wouldn't take it every day.

I take Klonopin (generic name: clonazepam) at night to combat anxiety so I can sleep. Without it, I am prone to lying awake all night worrying, which makes me exhausted the next day and more prone to additional anxiety, etc.
And yes, I've had panic attacks while driving, and haven't since I started taking Klonopin.
I find that it has a fairly quick onset, about 30 minutes, and is highly sedating, but your mind remains alert. It is also highly addicting, and when you stop taking it, the rebound anxiety/ insomnia can be terrible.
I've heard docs like to prescribe Klonopin over Xanax because it has a longer "half-life" and is less prone to abuse. That is why many prefer the SSRIs - they don't have an immediate "effect" and are therefore less likely to be abused.
I have not gained any weight on Klonopin, but I'm pretty sure it slows down your metabolism, especially if you take it every day.
Hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Hi Bird,
Dont worry, Klonopin and Xanax are the two most prescribed meds for anxiety and panic disorder. I have heard some great things about Klonopin really. They are great for eveyday use and or just when you know you going to by more than likely to have anxiety on that specific day. Check this consumer ratings on meds for yourself http://remedyfind.revolutionhealth.com/remedyfind/Conditions/Generalized-Anxiety-Disorder-GAD
God Bless
P.S. take your anxiety by the throat!!

It is an anti-anxiety med but it does have addictive properties, a better choice would be an antidepressant such a Paxil that is approved for panic disorder - better for the long term. Klonopin is also sedating, I would not make that my first choice of med as a patient.

Geeze i could honestly be on here all day answering medication questions...

How many people are on mood altering medication?

Anyway... Remember when Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood mac got really FAT? Well she got that way from years of abusing Klonopin.

It is highly addictive, life altering, and changes your body in horrible ways.

Don't start something where the benefits are so much less than the downsides... Especially when it is known to be addictive!

If you absolutely have to take medication to feel well... Try Paxil or Prozac instead.

According to druginfonet.com klonopin is primarily prescribed for seizure activity. It may also have a calming effect, but you might want to explore an alternative such as xanax if you do not have seizures or are uncomfortable with side effects.
