Which is the best for HDTV? As far as picture, reliability, etc... I have heard that on some plasma tv's the screen will darken after a couple years.

Here is the situation with Plasma and LCD. Plasma technology is basically small tiny little chambers that hold neon and xenon gases that when the appropriate amount of light passes through creates an image on your screen. Unfortunately, these gases expire. This technology is incredible and the fact is the image is more "vivid" than an LCD (when they are both brand new). Although Plasma has gotten better (averaging 60,000 hours of life), I am a believer that this is still not long enough for the price that we are being asked to pay.

LCD is a different technology altogether although it is also improving and today they are very competitive to Plasma. LCD works like this....

LCD is made of crystals that are "twisted". When light passes through them, the crystals twist more or un-twise to allow the proper color to pass through and create the picture. The advantage to LCD is that these crystals will never lose their integrity and all you essentially may have to do in the future is to buy a new bulb for the projector (relatively cheap).

I am a believer in purchasing HD LCD today for the following reasons:

- Do I really need to have an expensive depreciating Plasma HD 1080 TV or can my brain still be entertained with a LCD HD 1080? The answer is the latter of the two.

- Would I rather spend twice the amount of money on a Plasma that is have the size of an LCD?

- Personally, I would rather have a 70" LCD HD 1080 which will still provide a "beyond exceptional experience" for $3500-$4000 than a 52" depreciating plasma for $5500.

To me it is simple.

I just bought a 52" DLP and the picture is awesome. It looked comparable to the plasma of the same size except for the price. The DLP was 1300 the plasma was 1900 the LCD was 1700 and the picture was not as crisp. I also have HDTV and the picture is very clear, my son loves to watch the nature channel, specifically the bugs, and it was amazing the color and vividness of the picture. The only thing I dont like about any of them, is that it take a minute for the picture to come on.

We have a plasma, should have gone LCD imo. It doesn't stay there forever but there is burn-in on the plasma and it gets annoying when you change programming. For example, the call sign for TV stations? You can still see it even after you have changed the channel. And even if you stretch the screen to get rid of it, then what is the point of Hi-Def? Go LCD. Next HD we purchase will be one.

I've been hearing that plasmas only last 3 years and the LCD's are going to win the battle.

I would only consider a DLP TV. No burn in (Plasmas), no lost pixels (LCDs), and a picture like a photograph.
