Iron rich foods are:- pork, beef, liver, red meat, clams, dried peaches, oysters, nuts, beans, asparagus, molasses, oatmeal, egg yolks,fish and poultry and green leafy vegies.
Iron is necessary for proper metabolization of B vitamins. Copper, cobalt, manganese, and vitamin C are necessary to assimilate iron. Iron will aid in growth and promote resistance to disease. It will also prevent fatigue and cure and prevent iron-deficiency anemia and bring good skin tone.
Vitamin D rich foods are - fish liver oils, sardines, herring, salmon, tuna, milk and dairy products.
Vitamin D will properly utilize calcium and phosphorus necessary for strong bones and teeth. Children who don't drink D-fortified milk should increase their intake of other vitamin - D - rich foods. Vitamin D works best with vitamin A, vitamin C, choline, calcium and phosphorus.

Vitamin D is also soaked in through the skin. Is there anyway she can go outside in the sun for 15 to 30 minutes per day. It doesn't count with lots of clothes on. Short sleeve or no sleeves. You have to be careful not to get sun burned. Too much isn't good either. It doesn't help unless the skin is exposed. Keep lotions on to prevent skin damage.
What about vitamin supplements? Iron and Vit. D tablets taken daily. It takes a long time for results. It's better to start asap. Anything came be over-done.
Do everything that you can to help.
Can anything be done to boost her with IV fluids? Did the doctor mention it? I pray she will be alright.

Meats and shellfish are high in iron. If she's vegatarian or vegan: beans and lentils, enriched cerals and pasta, and baked potatoes with the skins.
For Vitamin D it's best that she recieve some daily sunshine. If she's sun sensitive then she should go for supplements. And milk - if she's not vegan.

there are iron supplements that she can but over the counter, i been taking them for few weeks. but she should not take those pills within an hour of consuming dairy products. she should be following up with her MD for labs to make sure that its goin in the right direction. all red meat is high in iron and raw veggies. milk is enriched with vit d

The cheapest source of vitamin d is natural sunlight. exposure to sunlight especially during morning hours is safe from uv radiation as well. you can find vit. d supplements in an oral form at ur local pharmacy. fish oils specially cod liver is good. as far as iron is concerned- spinach, greens, apples are excellent food sources.

first of all , don't get scared! these deficiencies are not untreatable. One can take the tablets concerned. but that's not the point. why did she develop it? Probably because not taking the correct nutritive food. One need not depend on tablets . please see that your sister takes the nutritive diet properly and steadily. you may consult a dietician. good luck to you both.
