A birth mark could be anything thats on your body when you are born. It could be a mole, it could be a purple splotch. Some people have them and some people don't.
They are caused from the melanin in your skin. Melanin is what causes pigmentation in your skin and it is located in the basale layer of your dermis and when you get too much sun exposure that is what is effected and can cause malignant melanoma cancer.

Good question, why is it called a birth mark if not everyone has one. Is it from birth? I don't think so, you may be born with it, but... ???
I have one on my arm, my husband does not.
I am curious to see what is said.

yes every one is born with them but not every one stay. they can fall off like if you had a strawberry birth mark or maybe yours is just not very big. and we get them from God he make us all special and that is just one more cool thing God let us have.
