I drive a GMC Jimmy. I'm about to have Xplod 6" in the doors, and Polk 6x9 in the rear and small Polks in the dash. I am also going to replace my Pioneer deck with a newer Sony CDX-GT51W. Question is do i need an amp to give it all more power? Or will it work but not produce what it could sound/quality wise? Thanks.

Okay so onto an amp. How about the Xplod 600 watt? I'm thinking this will work fine. I'm not trying to power subs, just speakers. Tell me what you think. And best place to mount it? I read these need good airflow.

Amplifiers will simply make whatever sound you have louder, not necessarily cleaner. Upgrading your head unit to a higher quality unit will give you cleaner sound, which you can then amplify to get better sound.

As a rule of thumb, if you have a crap signal, and you amplify it, you'll simply have a louder crap output. Better signal, then amplified, gives you better overall sound. Crap in = crap out.

the head unit will power it but probably not as good as an amp would. hook it all up and see if you like it, if not buy a 4 channel amp. Hope this helps
