It's difficult sometimes for most of us to be open-minded about the various religions, without being critical. It was for me at first also.
Each organized religion honestly has its own god.
God, according to each religion, has his or her own personality and character.
The creator god of Hinduism {Brahma) is not the same god as the god of Judaism {YHWH).
Just as the god of Islam {Allah) is not the same god as the god of Christianity {Father God, Jesus - The Word/bible that became flesh, The Holy Spirit = One god).
And there are some religions which have no creator god, ie: Buddhism.
Most religions have their own path to god, but the path is Not to the same god of other religions. Most religions believe that their path, or their way is "the only way,” and unfortunately do not respect the free will of others.
People that believe in a creator god, will never unite - to eventually believe in "the same" god.
The reason why there are so many diversities of religions and philosophy's in life, is that their are so many people, with so many different wants and needs.
For some Hinduism provides them with purpose in life, and gives them peace of mind and happiness.
For some Judaism provides them with purpose in life, and gives them peace of mind, and happiness.
For some Buddhism provides them with purpose in life, and gives them peace of mind, and happiness.
For some Christianity provides them with purpose in life, and gives them peace of mind, and happiness.
For some Islam provides them with purpose in life, and gives them peace and happiness.
And for some, a philosophy of life, or Humanism, or Agnosticism, or Atheism provides them with purpose in life, and gives them peace of mind, and Happiness.
And the list goes on.
One thing that is obvious, which we all do realize is that some religions do make strong attempts to convert others to their religion, or to their way of life, because their savior or prophet commanded them to, while other religions and philosophy's of Life respect the free will of others.
It is helpful for us all, through whatever methods we use, to develop patience and tolerance so that when others approach us strongly attempting to convert us {whether in person, or through Yahoo Answers) we use tolerant wisdom in response not cruelty.
For in my opinion, we all have the same essential wants/needs in life: we want to be free from difficulties and sufferings, we want peace of mind, and we all want to be happy.
Hope I was able to shed some insight on the subject.

Actually, when Christians come on here we get bashed, made fun of, called names, thumbs-downed, and flagged. We do not push our beliefs on anyone nearly as much as others do. People do not like Christians, so they say hateful things about them. Then again, by all means, say bad things. Jesus says we are blessed when people mock us and say all kinds of evil and lies against us.
The Bible is the only book with no flaws and no inconsistencies. Most of the time people just don't understand it so they speak from igorance.
Knowing who Christ is doesn't get one to heaven. The Bible says even the demons believe in God. One must have accepted Him as his/her personal Savior, and trust in Him as the only way to heaven.
Well, I'm sorry that you don't want God, and so is He. You see, my friend, you are going to find out one day that He's here, and He's been here all along. I hope you find that out before it's too late. Yes, go ahead and give me a thumbs-down or whatever. I'm telling the truth, and it doesn't matter whether you believe me.
Truth is not relevant. God is there whether you believe in Him or not.

Your first question, I agree. The saving grace of Jesus Christ does not come from a simple declaration. Jesus Christ himself never taught such a principle. In fact what he did teach was "If you love me keep my commandments" and the two great commandments are Love God with all your heart, might, mind, and strength. The second is to "Love thy neighbor as thyself."

It is written. Christians have faith in what is written. Faith is also a gift of God. For it is the gift of God that we are saved, and not of works, lest we boast (founded on pride, self righteousness).
Whosoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Whosoever confesses Jesus Christ Lord & Savior (His blood atones for their sins) of their life & believes in their heart He raised from the dead, shall have everlasting life.
For with the heart one believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (everlasting life).
It is written that God doesn't tempt anyone (tempt to leave God for other gods). It is the Adversary that does the tempting. Though God loves all, our sins separate us from God. And that is hell. But God is a righteous God in that God is Just. We reap what we sow. But there is a provision, Christ shed blood, to wash away our sins, so we can be restored to God. We are His workmanship. When we confess to God, God makes us right.

To test your faith in Him. Why does He do that? Because He wants to make sure you are not worshipping Him in vain. He wants you to turn to Him in times of good or bad. He wants you to realize He is there for you no matter what.
