It is very simple. Those all visit the temple are not devotees. Every person know that what he is doing is right or wrong. Every body had a fear that he has to pay for his sins. That fear lead them to temples to mitigate sins. Still, some where in the corner of their heart creep some doubt about the existence of god, since he is not visible. So they go to Saintly person, whom they can see and experience his miracles. They donate a large some of money acquired through illegal means and feel satisfied that their past sins were wiped-out. If they stop there they can't earn more money. So, again they go on old path to do more sins with more confidence., because they found a way-out through Saintly person.

Note: These are my opinions please do not take them personally.

If we had stoped at what our teachers taught us at schools, there wouldn't had been so much progress in technology today.
Everyone believes in something, but to acheive things beyond certain limits we have to stretch ourselves.
For this some principles are to be reviewed. This doent mean you have gone against your teacher.
A true teacher will always guide his studants to find out principle themselves. He will never force them to follow him blindly.
Be a good follower. Dont follow blindly.
