He is broken out on is belly and all around his groin. Poor thing, I want him to not itch. He doesn't act like he feels very good either. Hasn't even asked to got outside yet today. When that happens I know for sure he's not well. Please does anyone have any good advice. Please everybody, be nice. Sometimes I get answers from people who are poking fun. This is a serious matter for me because I don't drive and it's hard for me to get him to the vet. Thank you in advance for all of your advice. rocksmom

Thank you all for the advice. I am going to try most of them. I can't rate any one answer as the best because they were all good. Mostly. I do know that it is not flees. I keep that always under control. My aunt use to give her little shitzu benedryl and my dog is an American Staffordshire Terrier. He has never had any skin problems in his 3 yrs of life which is why I thought of the poison oak. Could even be sumac. We live in the woods and he loves to roam. Thanks again for all of your advice. rocksmom

give him a good bath and rinse him with 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 water solution. Then give him benadryl. If this doesn't calm him down then call the vet. Regular benedryl or store brand is fine. I don't know how much but I would think at least 1 every 6 hours. They wear off in 4 hours. Be careful with putting lotions or creams on him. If he licks it or bites at it then it will go internally and that's not always good. Look up uses for vinegar. I was just reading this the other night. There's lots of things you can use it for. Had a lot of tips for animals. Good luck. Hope he feels better.
Oh. And if you can find a drug store that delivers they might bring it to you. Also there are some vets that are on the road. It's a special service. If you can't get to the vet then maybe your vet will know of one of these or look in the phone book.

Honey! Phone the Vet . Get advice even if you can't go there personally.check if ok to give Dog an Antihistamine a human 1. I think it's ok but just be sure, Put Calamine Lotion, bicarb soda paste (mix with water until like peanut butter)apply to area. Or if you have a no sting spray for insect bites this may help itching.
Keep reapplying a necessary.
I hope it feels ok soon.

I'm not saying this couldn't happen, but I've never heard of a dog being allergic to poison oak or poison ivy (I'm 55 years old). Could it be fleas? Probably you need to take him to the vet and have them check it out.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU1XE
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Please call your vet. I know that dogs can use some human antihistamines but your vet can better tell you which one is exactly right for your dog and how much to give it. All human remedies may not be right for your dog. Oatmeal baths in the mean time will help ease his itchy skin.
You can also try a mixture of baking soda and water and place a wash cloth (ring it almost dry)into the mixture and just lay it on the most itchy spots. This is only a temporary relief.
Give your vet a call please and find out what they recomend.
Your poor itchy baby!

There are a lot of plants that are poisonous to dogs. Your dog needs to get to the vet because he could have more problems than just the itching if he swallowed any of it.

If you are certain it is from poison oak or ivy give him a strong bath and get rid of those oils, and some Benedryl.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tinyurl.im/bhK7g
By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.
To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.
