Because the very name of Jesus envokes guilt to alot of people.
I am a sinner in desperate need of a Savior. People don't like the truth sometimes.

I think that it's because if they admit that God/Jesus does exist then they also have to admit that there is a hell. Also, then they must admit that most of what they are doing in their life is wrong and that it would be wrong in God/Jesus eyes. Knowing all that they also know that there will be a judgment day when we will all have to stand in front of God/Jesus and be held accountable.
So then maybe if God/Jesus doesn't exist for them then they can go on living their lives the way they always have. They can keep being a liar/cheat/thief or what ever else they want since they don't think that their going to be any punishment for them or so they think. And also maybe if they think that if they act ignorant that if God/Jesus does exist that they will be able to be forgiven later, they will just play like they didn't know!

I only push away annoying people. These include believers who feel compelled to annoy me with their fairy tales.
I'm not afraid of god because I believe he doesn't exist. Furthermore, if he did exist I have no doubt that heaven and hell would never work the way christians seem to think they will. A god who would send Gandhi to hell and Mussolini to heaven makes no sense.
As far as fear of believers, I will note that the largest terrorist organization ever in the US was faith based - the KKK. I will also note that believers were responsible for the Oklahoma City and Atlanta Olympics bombings as well as numerous other attacks against innocent people. But I am willing to overlook this and, in general I am not afraid of believers, be they jews, christians, or muslims, or something else.

It's not to push God or Christ away, the essence of which is morality, peace and love - yet - it's to push the "Christian" away. The Christian tends to come off uneducated and rigid, only quoting the Bible as a source of information because it is the Word of God, yet they fail to realize the Bible has been rewritten and translated so many different times that much of it's meaning has been lost. I doubt Christ would relate to many of the so-called "Christian" Churches of today. I'm with fabrisgirl on this. Much of the religion is filled with hypocracy.
In addition, what gets me are the confining aspects of it (not morally, but philosophically). The universe is so much larger than just this evolving ideology - and the fact that many Christians believe what they are told at face value by their "pastors" relieves them of the work and responsibility of having to search their hearts and minds to conculde what is truely moral.

Because there is so much hypocrisy involved in Christianity and people are starting to see through it. People are not afraid of the belief, they just don't believe in it. How do you KNOW that there is a heaven and a hell? You couldn't possibly know unless you've been there. I don't know what I believe in at this point, but I know that I'm definitely NOT afraid and I hate it more than anything when people try to push their beliefs on me.

Because they don't share the same beliefs as you. You know that there is a heaven and hell? Prove it. That is what atheists lack. It is proof and we don't rely on faith. We aren't afraid of anything. If we were afraid, we would believe in God so we wouldn't burn in a hell or something. But we don't believe and we aren't afraid. That which you believe like God and Jesus just doesn't make sense to us and there is no proof to it so we do not believe.

A lot of nut cases latch on to Christianity, and they make sane people unconfortable. They give the impression that all Christians are space cadets. Any port in a storm, and mental patients in this country (the U.S.) go where they can find care.
Sad but true. Christians get a bad rap from helping people.

most have heard it before and already know it's not their thing.
they aren't afraid, they just want to find their own spiritual truths without beling told that those truths are wrong unless they are exactly the same as soneone elses.
you can't know something like that until you die. if it improves your life to think it's true no one is trying to stop you.
fear is more often a factor in belief than disbelief when it comes to a religion whose followers refuse to see the validity of any other spiritual path.
edit: most of my friends are agnostic and athestic, they always ask to come celebrate our holidays and want to learn about what we believe. but they know i am also curious about and not wanting to change their beliefs. you are pushed away because you are not invited to begin with.

Well it kinda depends on the person. I am a Christian and I've stopped going to many churches because they have lost sight of God. They are social clicks that focus on trying to sell God in pretty little package or condemn you for your sins.
This isn't how Jesus lived. I'd love to see any Christian actually lived how he did. He hung out with drunks, druggies...everyone!! Get out there and try living his life.
If you don't live like most Christians but instead like Jesus and respect EVERYONE and their religions and make friends instead of evangelical prospects...you will truly live and may even reach out to someone without even trying! THAT is why God put you here...not to judge or try and sell him...or even defend him. He's God...he can do that himself. He put you here to love others...
