Absolutely. If someone is suffering, and has made a choice, then who are we to tell them they can't? There is no reason for them to continue to suffer just because some outsider's sensibilities will be hurt by their choice.

On the other hand, I have a problem with families making the decision FOR the person. If the can't speak or communicate, then there is no way of knowing for sure what they want and that's when euthanasia probably can't be justified. It's insane to say "this is what they would have wanted" if you never spoke to the person while they were healthy.

I think, for the most part, a judge or a third party should make the decision in cases like that. Moral of the story: GET A LIVING WILL so that the choice is always yours, to the best of your ability. Talk to your family and tell them what you want and why.

It should be. U.S. government would rather let people suffer in pain and spend their strained S.S. checks on futile, expensive medications that barely work, but quickly arrest grandmas' who buy $5.00 worth of marijuana to ease their pain. It's idiosyncratic irony at best.

If someone wants to go, why stop them? It's their life choice! Why shouldn't they move on if they can't see, hear, or even wipe their own a**? This is humiliation topped with the absence of communication!

Is it really more humane to see them sit in a dark hospital wing every day in agonizing pain until their demise?
