If someone asks a question about God or Jesus, can people stop saying things like "how can he if he doesn't exist?"? You're atheist, great. Just stop waving your opinion around when we're trying to find answers in our faith.

They don't understand that (most of them). They think we come to the religion section to seek Atheists (don't ask me how they came to this conclusion), and it is there dutey as Atheists to tell us the "truth." Weird huh?

This comes from all sides, not just from atheists. When people ask about Islam or Buddhism, etc, a lot of Christians respond with Bible scripture and "Jesus loves you" b.s. that has nothing to do with the question. This site is for ALL religions. There is no Christian strong hold. Further, this is a great place for atheists to be. Just because they don't believe in God does not mean that they don't find talking about Him, or religion in general, interesting.

This category has become hopelessly stupid!

You can't post a legitimate question about anything!

- BECAUSE whatever it has to do with will get a bunch of petty answers from one camp or another:

-telling you you shouldn't even be asking the question,
-because Jesus loves you,
-because jesus doesn't exist,
-because there is only one way and yours is wrong...

Plus, the endless flood of argumentative questions - just like this one really - bury legitimate questions within an hour so that they will never have a chance at seeing a real answer.

Atheists often challenge the theist to prove God’s existence only within the confines of science.

Science has served humanity well. Through it we have discovered countless natural laws of the universe and use that knowledge to make our lives easier in every area of our existence. But to limit a theist's proofs to the confines of what the atheist demands is terribly one sided. To a Christian, there are experiences that science and logic cannot explain. The atheist needs to recognize that we have experiences that are life changing. No mere psychological set of theories explains the changes in our lives. So please, don't mock them. Can science nail down all that exists in mind, body, and soul? No. Can it quantify the beauty of a sunset, the cooing of a baby, or the love of a man and a woman? Science and logic have served us well, but they are not the ultimate truth to all things.
Of course, that does not mean we ignore science. In fact, we use it in our proofs for God. But to limit the playing field to your set of rules is an improper way to start. It is mostly an attempt to initiate control and keep command of the conversation by setting the ground rules according to your criteria.

Though an atheist may not accept biblical evidence at support for God's existence, it does not negate the fact that the Bible is evidence. Whether or not the atheist wants to accept it, is another matter

Name-calling and insults.
Of course, this is obvious. I heard it said once that the man who strikes first admits his arguments have run out. In some of the discussions I've had with atheists, when I've made a valid point in logic, I have been insulted. To call someone a name is to attack the person and not the issue and it closes the door to true discussion.
Condescension
This is the most common of all mistakes I've encountered with atheists. I've been told by atheists that I'm an idiot for believing God, that if I were truly intelligent I'd abandon my anachronistic thinking, etc. These comments do nothing to further discussion.
Straw-man argumentation

Sometimes atheists will construct an argument against Christianity that does not reflect a true Christian position. For example, one atheist stated that the Trinity was illogical because three gods could not be one God. I had to correct him and show him that the Trinity is the doctrine that there is only one God in three persons, not three gods.

Other straw-man arguments deal with persons who claim to be Christians and act in an unchristian manner. A typical example is the white supremacist who claims to be a Christian and when he does something which is against the Bible, his bad example is used to label all Christians

Then why are there fundamentalists in Science & Mathematics telling high school students evolution is a hoax perpetrated by evil men when they are just trying to ask a simple question about their biology homework? I think both are tasteless, but don't pretend that you should be a special protected group on Y!A.

Boy are you in the wrong section. This is Religion and Spirituality. These questions are never going to go away, just like people won't stop insulting other religions other than their own.

Everyone here thinks that their own way is right.

Well, the point of this site is to express one's opinion, not to "leave it alone". If you post a question on a highly debated subject, like religion, expect to hear from vocal people who have different beliefs!

Essentially what you're saying is that you don't want to be bothered with opinions that don't jive with your own. Well, your answers probably strike others as offensive, too. So, what do we do? As I see it, we live in a very diverse society, so it's best to learn not to be offended by differences of opinion.

no.

think of it as people trying to enlighten you
...which is what you're looking for anyway

ex.
if someone says, "i'd like to date her"
and other people tell him, "well, she's already married!"
...it's to let him know....don't waste your time thinking in that direction

if you're going to inquire....here
you're inviting "opinions"
other than those that mirror yours

take what you need
and leave the rest

g'luck

Jibba - I've never waived Jesus. As a matter of fact, I've put the franchise tag on Him.

Let me know if you get this.
